Municipal Services

Prein&Newhof’s goal to satisfy its municipal clients’ needs has led the firm to provide the following additional services.

Rate Studies
As a corresponding service for its water and wastewater clients, Prein&Newhof works to identify fair and reasonable rate structures that enable the citizens of a community to support their own utility systems, taking into account capital, operations, maintenance, and replacement costs.

Special Assessment Districts
Municipalities and townships often rely on this method to finance their water and wastewater improvements. Prein&Newhof works with municipal officials to identify fair and reasonable charges by determining and mapping district boundaries, developing systems of charging that reflect benefit, and providing assistance at public hearings.

Site Plan Review/Ordinances
Often working in cooperation with local developers and architects, Prein&Newhof designs and reviews site plans for its township and municipal clients. The firm’s civil engineers address such issues as water supply, wastewater collection, stormwater drainage, traffic flow, parking, and building elevations.

Intra-Agency Utility Agreements
Prein&Newhof provides assistance with utility service negotiations between communities whose systems are interrelated.

Funding Assistance
As a service to its clients and colleagues, Prein&Newhof publishes a financing reference guide for Michigan communities. The most recent version of the guide, Grants & Loans 2006, includes new funding programs, current contact information for each grant or loan program, and an extensive list of print and online resources. To request a print copy of the guide, call (616-364-8491) or email Jim Hegarty, P.E.

Consumer Confidence Reports
The State of Michigan requires public water providers to annually report their water quality test results to their customers. Prein&Newhof assists its clients in the analysis of these test results according to state standards, as well as the design, publication, and modes of distributing the Consumer Confidence Report.

Geographic Information Systems
GIS is a system formed by converging maps and data to assess information. By utilizing a geographic information system, the user can perform spatial analysis and solve “what if” scenarios quickly and accurately. From a single data layer to an entire system, Prein&Newhof will customize the application to fit your needs, providing comprehensive training and support.
