P&N mobilizes SAW team

May 27, 2014

Prein&Newhof field crews began work last week on asset management projects funded through MDEQ’s SAW (Stormwater and Wastewater) grant program. MDEQ awarded $77 million to Michigan communities this Spring to begin the process of developing infrastructure asset management plans. Another $353 million will be awarded in future years.photo (1)

The first step in an infrastructure asset management plan is an asset inventory. In the photo below, P&N surveyors are locating manholes in the Village of Ravenna in Muskegon County. This data collection process inventories a community’s assets, which are then displayed on a system map.Future steps will include an evaluation of each asset’s condition, its remaining life and replacement cost, its criticality to the system’s operation, and creation of a financial plan to fund future needs.
