Community GIS & Tax Mapping
Kalamazoo County and its communities rely on P&N to develop GIS standards and systems.
Kalamazoo County’s 24 municipalities are each responsible for the funding and development of their own GIS systems. This has enabled them to develop a rich GIS database that allows data sharing across jurisdictional boundaries.
From the beginning, Prein&Newhof has been an instrumental partner in the creation of GIS data in Kalamazoo County. In the mid 1990’s, P&N served on the steering committee that developed GIS standards and the vision for how GIS would evolve in Kalamazoo County.
In 1998, P&N began data development for Pavilion and Oshtemo Townships. In the following 10 years, Comstock, Texas, Cooper, Richland, Charleston and Schoolcraft Townships asked P&N to complete their GIS data. In 2010, Kalamazoo County entrusted P&N to complete the final remaining parcels.
In addition to parcels, P&N has also created and maintains sanitary sewer and water distribution systems, county drains, zoning and future land use, election precincts, four foot contours and tax maps in GIS. As stewards of this data, P&N helps meet the needs of a variety of users and applications throughout the County, from small townships to the County’s enterprise Web mapping system.
