Boardman River alive and well at site of former Brown Bridge Dam

By Jim Hegarty, PE

On my way to a speaking engagement in Traverse City last week, I stopped by the former site of the Brown Bridge Dam that was removed from the iconic Boardman River in 2013. P&N provided engineering evaluations in 2008, to a team led by Environmental Consulting & Technology that studied the removal of the Brown Bridge Dam and two other dams on the Boardman River.

As shown in the photo, the river looks like a river again! Work is underway to design the removal of the two remaining dams on the Boardman River. Traverse City’s Conservation Resource Alliance  is managing this effort. You can read more about these projects here.

If you have questions about removing a dam, I’d love to hear from you!
