Overall Role
To ensure that clients have a positive impression of the company through efficient and respectful in-person, phone and email communication, to perform administrative functions through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and assist the other Laboratory Assistants and Technicians.
Essential Responsibilities
- Greet clients, receive and log in samples, and occasionally prepare materials for testing.
- Pleasantly answer and direct incoming phone calls, learning to respond to clients’ questions and provide information about lab services.
- Input information, compute reports, and become knowledgeable with LIMS and facilitate continued successful implementation and use.
- Prepare sample bottles for pickup and UPS packages for shipments.
- Read, record, and file analytical reports electronically.
- Maintain inventory of chemicals, glassware, and other supplies. Place orders for supplies when inventory becomes low.
- Ensure that all supplies are stored in appropriate and safe locations.
- Sterilize and clean glassware and work areas, disposing of potential pathogenic and biohazardous materials appropriately.
- Establish accurate records of tests performed.
- Other duties as needed.
Working Conditions and Environment
Lab Assistants work almost exclusively in the laboratory environment. Understanding the safe use of hazardous materials and potentially pathogenic organisms is required. Lab Assistants must follow all safety practices according to the Chemical Hygiene Plan. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. He/she must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds or more.
Education and Experience
Minimum: High school diploma or GED. 2 years of experience working in an administrative position- laboratory experience a plus.
Preferred: Associates or bachelor’s degree in business administration, chemistry or related field. 5 years of experience working in an administrative position at laboratory a plus.
