We are looking to hire an experienced civil engineer to support our airport engineering business. Job responsibilities include report writing, design engineering, construction engineering, client coordination for airport clients, and preparation of workload forecast for staff.
Overall Role
To provide high-quality engineering services for our clients while supporting the Design Engineer, Project Manager and/or Client Manager.
Essential Responsibilities
Scope of duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Perform design or portions of design under direction of Project Manager.
- Visit construction site, or consistently observe construction of projects to monitor progress and other duties per the contract document.
- Perform CADD work as needed to prepare construction documents, airport layout plan updates, presentation figures, etc.
- Collect and analyze data related to historical information and aviation activity at a specific airport and/or for a specific project.
- Analyze survey data, geotechnical reports, record drawings and other data to plan and design projects.
- Prepare planning, design and construction reports based on information collected.
- Prepare design computations and quantity estimates.
- Prepare and submit permit applications.
- Attend client meetings; prepare meeting minutes.
- Perform other design, construction administration, and office duties as needed.
Working Conditions and Environment
- Work will be expected in office and field environments. There is a moderate amount of travel to and from job sites. The noise level in the work environments is moderate to loud. The applicant must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds or more.
- From time to time, the applicant may be required to work overtime including weekend work.
- Work in a field environment may be performed in a variety of weather conditions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check (49 CFR 1542.209) and obtain an unescorted access to an airport security identification display area.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Establish and maintain professional and positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Communicate in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools.

Education and Experience
Minimum
- Experience with CADD Software (AutoCAD, Civil3D)
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Ability to obtain a professional engineering license through the state of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs within five (5) years of employment.
Preferred
- Passing grade on NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
- Area of Civil Engineering Course Concentration in airports or municipal infrastructure.
