We are looking to hire a civil engineer to support our water resources engineering business. Job responsibilities include site plan review, storm water management, field investigations, report writing, design engineering, construction engineering, and client coordination for municipal clients.
Overall Role
To provide high-quality engineering services for our clients while supporting the Project Manager and/or Client Manager.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct site investigations and surveys to assess water resource needs and constraints.
- Participate and present in public meetings to gather feedback and address concerns.
- Conducted hydraulic, hydrologic, and/or hydrogeologic designs.
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil
- composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to assist in the planning of projects.
- Prepare reports based on data collected.
- Correspond with clients as necessary via phone, email, fax, mail.
- Prepare project cost estimates, bid documents, and specifications for projects.
- Apply for permits.
- Visit construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
- Coordinate testing, surveying, inspection, CADD, and administrative support.
- Attend client meetings; prepare meeting minutes.
- Perform GIS work and occasional CAD work.
Working Conditions and Environment
Design Engineers work both in the office and out in the field. There is a moderate amount of travel to and from job sites. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Engineers must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Education and Experience
Minimum
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in municipal civil engineering
- Good communication skills – written and verbal
- Self-motivated
Preferred
- Masters degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience
- Proficiency in GIS, CAD and other relevant software
- Knowledge of water resource management principles and the Michigan Drain Code
