Cadillac’s downtown improvements are almost complete! A new splash pad, outdoor fireplace, and a beautiful arch will add an inviting touch to the new Plaza gathering space in the heart of downtown Cadillac. The Plaza is one part of a series of improvements recommended by Cadillac’s PlacePlan.
In 2014, the City of Cadillac applied for MIplace Partnership assistance from the Michigan Municipal League (MML), with the goal of making the downtown Heritage Plaza area a more inviting and exciting place for visitors and residents, while reflecting the true character of the City. MML worked with the City to create a PlacePlan that took community input, design considerations, and a study of the area’s assets to make a personalized plan for the Heritage Plaza area. The City of Cadillac hired Prein&Newhof to design its PlacePlan’s implementation strategies and to provide construction testing and observation.
The entire lakefront area, including the Performing Arts Rotary Pavilion, City Park, The Plaza, Trailhead, and the future Market have been designated as Cadillac Commons. Coordinated banners will hang from the light poles as a creative way to define the public area.
The Cadillac Commons project has qualified for $50,000 in matching funds through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s Public Spaces Community Places program. If the community goal of $50,000 is raised by September 16, 2016, the project will be awarded an additional $50,000 for FREE! The funds will go towards the construction of The Market.
