City of East Grand Rapids - Sidewalk Improvements for Cascade & Robinson

Project Information

The City of East Grand Rapids is extending their sidewalk connectivity along Robinson Road and Cascade Road with the help of a Federally Funded TAP Grant. This project will consist of 1.8 miles of sidewalk construction and restoration along with retaining walls and storm sewer.

Access/Traffic:

Access to mailboxes, driveways, and existing areas will remain throughout the project. Once new driveways are installed there will be a 7-day curing period where temporary or staggered driveways will be provided. Communication to each homeowner regarding the specifics of each driveway will be communicated with advanced notice.

Superior Asphalt was also on site, completing hand patching and paving of driveways along Cascade Road.

Upcoming Work:

Next week, Brenner Excavating will resume sidewalk construction along Robinson Road, extending up to Lakeside Drive. Work is also scheduled to begin on the retaining wall near the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Robinson Road.

Progress Report:

This week, Brenner Excavating was primarily focused on stripping topsoil and grading along Robinson Road, starting from the Robinson Road and Cascade Road intersection and moving westward toward Lakeside Drive. In addition, sand was brought in to prepare the subbase for concrete.

Consumers Energy has been on site throughout the week relocating the remaining guy wires and utility poles.

T&D Concrete poured ADA ramps, sidewalks, and several driveways, beginning at the driveway to Manhattan Park and extending to the east side of Manhattan Road. T&D is scheduled to return on Monday to continue pouring ADA ramps and sidewalks, progressing eastward to El Centro Boulevard.

The temporary lane shift on Cascade Road is expected to be removed up to Rexford Drive by this evening.

Brenner Excavating will continue grading the sand subbase and begin bringing in topsoil. We anticipate that all driveways along Cascade Road will be accessible by the end of next week, weather permitting.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as work progresses.

This week: Brenner Excavating began removing concrete curb to prepare for the installation of new ADA-compliant curb openings. They also started removing driveways along Cascade Avenue, working closely with homeowners between Rexford and Manhattan Park to schedule the work with minimal disruption. Meanwhile, T&D Concrete was on site continuing concrete pours for new sidewalk, curb and gutter, and the driveway sections.
