Important Information

The City of Muskegon is replacing sanitary gravity sewer and water main on Peck Street from Laketon Avenue to Merrill Avenue. The work will also include various storm sewer improvements and full reconstruction of the asphalt roadway. The project will further involve replacing various water services from the water main to the building throughout the project area.

City of Muskegon – Peck Street Road & Utility Improvements

Big changes are happening on Phase 2 of the Peck Street project.  The underground utility work has been completed, gravel has been spread over the entire roadway, and concrete improvements are beginning today!

 

Work Completed This Week

  • The storm sewer catch basin leads at Larch Avenue and Dale Avenue were installed.
  • Aggregate base was installed on Peck Street from Laketon Avenue to Southern Avenue.
  • The new water main was tied in at Larch Avenue and is now fully tied into the water system.
  • P.K. Contracting finished installing the pavement markings on Phase 1.
  • Concrete curb and gutter installation began today (Friday, July 23).

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Concrete curb and gutter will continue to be installed followed by driveway approaches and sidewalk.  Access to driveways on Peck Street will be temporarily restricted to residents and businesses until the curb and approaches are installed and the concrete is given enough time to cure (3-5 days after installation).  Street parking will be available along the side streets during this time.  We appreciate your patience while the Contractor works to regain access to residents as soon as possible.
  • Aggregate base will be installed on Dale Avenue between Peck Street and Clinton Street tomorrow (Saturday, July 24).
  • Fine grading of the aggregate base may begin toward the end of the week.

Work Completed This Week

  • Storm sewer continued to be installed between Dale Avenue and Forest Avenue.
  • Roadway installation on Phase 2 began today (Friday) at Southern Avenue working south.  Sand subbase was compacted and gravel was installed over the graded sand.
  • The new water main was tied into the existing water system at Forest Avenue and Dale Avenue.
  • The sanitary lateral serving Marsh Field was pipe burst under Laketon Avenue and replaced by Midwest Trenchless Services.
  • P.K. Contracting painted the double yellow and parking lane pavement markings on Phase 1 and plans to install the remainder of the crosswalk and stop bar markings tomorrow (Saturday).

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • The water main at Larch Avenue will be tied into the existing water system tomorrow (Saturday).
  • The storm sewer catch basin leads at Larch Avenue and Dale Avenue will be installed.
  • Aggregate base will continue to be installed from Southern Avenue toward Laketon Avenue.

Work Completed This Week

  • Performed 9 water service replacements. All water service placements are now complete.
  • Removed road cones, signs & barricades from Phase 1 of project.
  • West Michigan Sprinkling on site to begin repairing damaged sprinklers on Phase 1.
  • Water main tie-ins at intersections began on Saturday.

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Contractor will be performing water main tie-ins on Tuesday.
  • The sanitary lateral crossing Laketon Ave. to Marsh Field is scheduled to be replaced by pipe bursting and the remaining sanitary manholes will be installed.
  • Kamminga & Roodvoets will begin placing storm sewer on Phase 2.
  • Road striping on Phase 1 of Peck Street will be installed.

Great news!  Phase 1 of the Peck Street Project (Southern Ave to Merrill Ave) is open to traffic! Here’s what progress happened this week and what’s to come next week:

 

Work Completed This Week

  • The top course of asphalt was paved on Phase 1 on Thursday and Friday morning on Phase 1
  • Temporary pavement markings were installed on Phase 1 in order to open the roadway to traffic.
  • Water services continued to be replaced on Phase 2.
  • Miscellaneous concrete improvements were completed on Phase 1.
  • The top soil on phase 1 was spread and was hydroseeded today (Friday).

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Continue replacing water services on Phase 2.
  • Install permanent pavement markings on Phase 1 (PK Contracting)
  • Potentially complete more water main tie-ins at the intersections of Phase 2.
  • Continue installing storm sewer catch basin leads on Phase 2.

 

Kamminga & Roodvoets is not planning to work tomorrow, July 3. Work will resume on Tuesday, July 6.  Have a great holiday weekend!

Heavy rains at the end of this week have slowed things down a bit on Peck Street, but significant progress was still made on both phases. Kamminga & Roodvoets is planning to work tomorrow, Saturday June 26 (weather dependent) on spreading top soil on Phase 1.

 

Work Completed This Week

  • Installed the 36-inch storm sewer along Dale Avenue from Peck Street to Clinton Street after the roadway was removed earlier this week.
  • Tied in the new water main on Phase 2 at Laketon Avenue and at Southern Avenue.
  • Began replacing water services on Phase 2.
  • Finished replacing the sanitary laterals on Phase 2.
  • Raised all manhole castings on Phase 1 and continued spreading top soil over all disturbed areas.

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Pave the top course of asphalt on Phase 1 (rescheduled for Tuesday – weather dependent).
  • Continue replacing water services on Phase 2.
  • Continue spreading top soil on Phase 1 in preparation for hydroseeding.
  • Finish miscellaneous concrete improvements on Phase 1.

 

Work Completed This Week

  • Finished all concrete improvements on Phase 1 (Southern Ave to Merrill Ave).
  • Continued replacing sanitary sewer laterals on Phase 2 (Laketon Ave to Southern Ave).
  • Fine graded the aggregate base and paved the base course and leveling course of asphalt on Phase 1.
  • Began raising manhole castings in the roadway up to final grade.
  • Installed all 8-inch mainline water main on Phase 2 and began chlorinating the water main after passing pressure testing.

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Pulverize the asphalt on the south half of Dale Avenue on Monday and install the 36-inch storm sewer on Dale Avenue to Clinton Street.
  • Tie-in the new water main on Phase 2 after bacteria testing is completed.  Water service replacements may begin before the end of the week.
  • Finish replacing the sanitary laterals on Phase 2.
  • Raise all manhole castings on Phase 1 before possibly paving the top course of asphalt near the end of the week.
  • Place top soil over disturbed areas in Phase 1.

Work Completed This Week

  • Replaced the 16-inch water main and storm sewer in the Southern Avenue intersection.
  • Installed approximately 800 feet 8-inch sanitary sewer from Dale Avenue south to Laketon Avenue.   360 feet of 36-inch storm sewer was simultaneously installed between Larch Avenue and Dale Avenue.
  • Finished grading the subbase and installing aggregate base on Phase 1.
  • Began fine grading the aggregate base at the north end of Phase 1 in preparation for paving.
  • Placed concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveways and sidewalk ramps throughout Phase 1.
  • Continued replacing sanitary laterals between Forest Avenue and Southern Avenue.

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Finish installing concrete improvements on Phase 1 by midweek.
  • Continue replacing sanitary laterals between Forest Avenue and Laketon Avenue.
  • Begin installing new 8-inch water main from Southern Avenue to the south.
  • Finish fine grading the aggregate base on Phase 1 in preparation for the first layer of asphalt pavement to be installed mid to late next week.

 

Important Information

  • As concrete driveways and curb and gutter is installed on Phase 1, vehicle driveway access for residents will need to restricted temporarily to allow time for the concrete to cure properly.  Please park vehicles outside of the project area while concrete is being installed across your driveway approach.  Thank you for your patience!
  • Work on the added 36-inch storm sewer on Dale Avenue between Peck Street and Clinton Street is scheduled to begin the week of June 21.  The south half of the roadway will be replaced.
  • The underground crews will be working Saturday, June 12 (tomorrow) on Phase 2.

Work Completed This Week

  • Installed new storm sewer at Grand Avenue.
  • Installed approximately 1,000 feet 8-inch sanitary sewer from Southern Avenue south to Dale Avenue.
  • Continued to replace water services and sanitary laterals on Phase 1.  All underground piping has been completed on Phase 1 with the exception of the Southern Avenue intersection.
  • Continued removing concrete roadway, curb and gutter, driveway, and sidewalk on Phase 2.
  • Installed aggregate base from the north end project limits to Grand Avenue.
  • Placed concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveways and ADA ramps on the north end of Phase 1.
 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Replace the 16-inch water main at Southern Avenue beginning at 8:00 AM on Monday morning (6/7).
  • Begin installing sanitary laterals south of Southern Avenue.
  • Continue installing the gravel base for the roadway on Phase 1 between Southern Avenue and Grand Avenue.
  • Continue installing concrete curb and gutter, driveways, and replacing sidewalk on Phase 1.
  • Simultaneously install 8-inch sanitary sewer and 36-inch storm sewer from Dale Avenue to Larch Avenue.

  • The scope of the Peck Street project has been expanded to include installing a new 36-inch storm sewer from the intersection of Dale Avenue and Clinton Street to the intersection of Peck Street and Larch Avenue.  This extra work will include replacing the southern half of the roadway on Dale Avenue between Peck Street and Clinton Street.
  • Contractor will be working Saturday, June 5 (tomorrow).

Work has progressed quickly on Peck Street this week with 5 to 6 construction crews from Kamminga and Roodvoets on site all week. Work has begun on the underground for Phase 2, while Phase 1 of Peck Street is beginning to look more like a roadway again after replacement of the water, sanitary and storm infrastructure.   • Replaced the 24-inch storm sewer between Irwin Avenue and Washington Avenue.
  • Continued to replace water services.  Only 2-3 water services remain to be on Phase 1.
  • Continued removing concrete roadway, curb and gutter, and driveways on Phase 2.
  • Began grading the sand subbase for road replacement and installing the gravel base from the north end project limits to Isabella Avenue.
  • Placed concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and ADA ramps on the north end of Phase 1.
  • Note: As concrete driveways and curb and gutter is installed on Phase 1, vehicle driveway access for residents will need to restricted temporarily to allow time for the concrete to cure properly.  Please park vehicles outside of the project area while concrete is being installed across your property.

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Continue boring and connecting water services south of Irwin Ave.
  • Replace the 16-inch water main through the Southern Avenue Intersection.
  • Continue installing the gravel base for the roadway on Phase 1 from Isabella Avenue toward Southern Avenue.
  • Continue installing concrete curb and gutter and replacing sidewalk at the north end of Phase 1.
  • Install sanitary sewer on Phase 2 from Forest Avenue to the south.

Contractor is not on Memorial Day and may need to work on Saturday, June 5.

Work Completed This Week

  • Performed four water main tie-ins at Strong Ave., Arthur Ave., Morrall Ave., and Isabella Ave.
  • Continued to replace water services.  Water services are now complete from Washington Ave. to the north project limits.
  • Removed the asphalt for Phase 2 and began removing the concrete road under the asphalt.
  • Began grading the sand subbase for road replacement and installing the gravel base at the north end project limits.
  • Finished installing all storm sewer north of Irwin Ave.

 

Anticipated Work Next Week

  • Continue boring and connecting water services south of Washington Ave.
  • Installing sanitary laterals south of Grand Ave.
  • Begin installing storm sewer from Irwin Ave. to the south.
  • Continue installing the gravel base for the roadway on Phase 1
  • Start installing concrete curb and gutter and replacing sidewalk at the north end project limits.
