City of Rockford - Utility and Street Improvements Fremont Street

Project Information

City of Rockford will be reconstructing the street replacing water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities along a portion of Fremont Street. The purpose of the project is to replace old, structurally-deficient sanitary sewer, verify water service line material, and replace any water service lines found to contain lead or galvanized pipe within the project area. The limits of the project on Fremont Street are from Division Street to 200 feet south of the intersection of Ogden Street. The project team consists of the City of Rockford, the City’s project engineering Prein&Newhof, and the City’s construction contractor, Dan’s Excavating.

Access/Traffic:

Fremont Street will be closed to thru traffic with a detour. Access to driveways within the project area will be maintained to the extent possible. When the underground utility work is happening, driveways will be closed and restored with temporary road gravel by the end of the work day. Permanent driveway restoration, such as pouring concrete, will require additional driveway closures at the end of the project. Please contact the contractor listed below if you have a special need for driveway access accommodations during these periods.

Garbage Pickup:

Normal trash pickup schedules will continue. When construction work hinders access, Dan’s Excavating will transport trash containers to an accessible location and return them to the property.

Water Service:

Properties with water service lines made of lead or galvanized pipe will have the service line replaced from the watermain to inside the building in accordance with State of Michigan requirements. Such properties will receive separate notice at a later date, and the city’s contractor for the project will be working to coordinate access for this work inside the buildings.
