In 2019, Jim Schmidt donated 67 acres of land to Grand Haven Charter Township to be made into a park. Prein&Newhof is working with Grand Haven Charter Township to design, bid, and oversee construction for Phase One of Schmidt Heritage Park.
This phase is planned to have 12 pickleball courts, six soccer fields, a softball field and a baseball field, a trail around the perimeter of the park, restrooms, shelters, and a parking lot. The entrance to the park will be on Ferris Street across from Hofma Park. Future phases will include two youth baseball diamonds and two softball fields along with more restrooms, shelter, and parking.
This project includes site preparation, removals, and earthwork necessary for the construction of a new park with accompanying sports fields. It will also include supporting facilities such as a restroom building, maintenance building, picnic shelters, large capacity well, electric services & distribution, storm drainage system, irrigation, chips & fines jogging trail with signage, boardwalk crossings, HMA paving, concrete sidewalks, curb & gutter, flagpole, benches, trash & recycling, trees, dune grass, and turf restoration.
