Grand Haven Spring Lake Sewer Authority – Wastewater Plant & Pump Station Improvements

Contract 1 Work Completed in May:
  • Began site asphalt paving.
  • Began transitioning old headworks building into storage/garage building.
  • Finalized piping in primary sludge building.
  • Began work on Columbus Avenue reconstruction.

 

Anticipated Work in June:

  • Finish asphalt paving.
  • Finish pipe painting and labeling throughout site.
  • Perform various site restorations, including the installation of a new irrigation system.
  • Complete Columbus Avenue reconstruction.
Contract 1 Work Completed in April:
  • Site stormwater piping
  • Site underdrain piping
  • Demolition of Old Grit Building
  • SE primary clarifier startup
  • Site grading and concrete
  • West startup of primary sludge pump 
  • Site grading and gravel subbase for asphalt

 

Anticipated Work in May:

  • Site concrete and sidewalk
  • Finish pipe painting and labeling throughout site
  • Various site restorations

Contract 1 Work Completed in March:
  • Headworks startup and operation with live raw water
  • Grand Haven forcemain and local flows tied into new headworks
  • Completed decommissioning of old headworks
  • SE Primary Clarifier equipment installed
  • Painting in Activated Sludge Building (ASB)
  • East primary sludge pump startup
  • Finalized underground odor control piping for new headworks

 

Anticipated Work in April:

  • SE Primary Clarifier startup
  • West primary sludge pump startup
  • Finish pipe painting and labeling throughout the site
  • Site stormwater and underdrain piping
  • Various site restorations
  • Preparation and grading for sidewalk, site concrete, and paving

Contract 1 work completed since last update (2/4/2020):

  • Piping in the headworks building was painted; grit & screen equipment started up.
  • Tie-in of new headworks to existing 36-inch raw water line
  • Exhaust fans, doors fully installed in Headworks
  • Installation of natural gas line serving the new headworks
  • Demolition of east primary sludge pump and installation of piping
  • Startup of Local Pump Station pumps and VFDs (2/25/2020)
  • Startup of flexible rake bar screen (2/25/2020)
  • Startup of grit washer/compactor (2/25/2020)
  • Activated sludge building work completed

  • Startup of headworks
  • Operation of headworks with live raw water

  • 36-inch raw water line installed
  • Ductwork and exhaust fans in headworks
  • Electrical and lighting work in headworks
  • North activated sludge pumps, valving, and piping


Anticipated work in February:

  • Connection of headworks to raw water line
  • Startup of headworks
  • Completion of activated sludge building
  • Commencement of primary sludge building work
  • Southeast primary clarifier work


Contract 2 work completed since last update (1/3/2020):

SPRING LAKE PUMP STATION:

  • Completed startup of pump station
  • Completed installation of electrical and controls equipment
  • Completed installation of mechanical equipment
  • Completed replacement of roofing material and equipment
  • Began painting walls, floors, ceiling, and equipment


Anticipated work in February:

  • Complete punch list work at both pump stations
  • Begin restoration at Spring Lake Pump Station
  • Complete all restoration in Spring 2020

Contract #1 work completed since last update (12/3/2019):

  • Startup of new south activated sludge pumps
  • Several runs of yard piping
  • Painting in headworks building
  • Overhead door installed in headworks building

 

Anticipated work in January:

  • Several runs of yard piping
  • Existing grit building bypass and tie-in
  • North activated sludge piping, valving, pump installation

 

Contract #2 work completed since last update (12/3/2019):

SPRING LAKE PUMP STATION:

  • Connected station to existing force main
  • Completed installation of pumps, valves, and piping
  • Started painting equipment
  • Poured new sidewalk
  • Continued installation of electrical and controls equipment

 

Anticipated work in January:

  • Complete punch list work at Grand Haven Pump Station
  • Install all remaining equipment at Spring Lake Pump Station
  • Paint remaining equipment and building interior
  • Perform startup of pump station
  • Begin restoration

Contract #1 work completed since last update (11/1/2019):

  • Concrete sidewalk, pipe bollards, awnings installed on headworks building
  • SE primary clarifier demolition and coating
  • Electrical switch-over to new transformer and automatic transfer switch
  • Metal grating and stairs in headworks building

 

Anticipated work in December:

  • Several runs of yard piping
  • South activated sludge pumps startup
  • Painting, caulking, door installation in headworks building
  • Installation of lighting and electrical equipment in headworks building

 

Contract #2 work completed since last update (11/1/2019):

GRAND HAVEN PUMP STATION:

  • Performed startup of pump station and took bypass pumps out of service

 

SPRING LAKE PUMP STATION:

  • Installed temporary pump station bypass system
  • Demolished existing equipment and began installation of new equipment
  • Excavated to prepare for connection to existing force main
  • Poured concrete bases for new pumps

 

Anticipated work in December:

  • Remove bypass system from Grand Haven Pump Station
  • Connect new piping to existing force main at Spring Lake Pump Station
  • Install all remaining equipment
  • Paint equipment and building interior
  • Perform startup of pump station

Contract #1 work completed since last update (10/2/19):

  • Installed precast roof planks and roof grout layer
  • Finished headworks building masonry
  • Staged screening & grit removal equipment in headworks building
  • Began pump and piping replacement work in activated sludge building
  • Pulled wires through conduit for transformer and ATS

 

Anticipated work in November:

  • Painting & metalwork (stairs, grating, railings, etc.)
  • Site piping continuations
  • Activated sludge building startup of south pumps
  • Electrical switchover (new transformer and ATS active)
  • Equipment installation in grit building

 

Contract #2 work completed since last update (10/2/19):

  • Completed installation of piping and valves
  • Set air compressor and installed compressed air piping to control valves
  • Coated wet well interior with epoxy
  • Installed new exterior electrical equipment
  • Electrical crew installs wiring for new automatic transfer switch, disconnect switch, and transformer

 

Anticipated work in November:

  • Install all remaining equipment at Grand Haven Pump Station
  • Paint remaining equipment and building interior
  • Perform startup of pump station and remove bypass pumps
  • Begin construction at Spring Lake Pump Station

  • Process piping progress in valve/meter chamber
  • Headworks building masonry
  • 4-inch effluent water line

  • Install new pumps, valves, monorails, and remaining piping, electrical, HVAC, and instrumentation equipment
  • Epoxy coat wet well interior
  • Paint equipment and building interior
  • Perform startup of pump station and remove bypass pumps

Contract #1 work completed since last update (7/31/19):

  • Headworks floor slab, grit channel walls, dumpster room concrete formed & poured with conduit and wall piping in place.
  • Segments of gravity main installed into local wet well
  • Conduit duct banks outside of Primary Sludge Building completed and cased in concrete
  • Local Pump Station wet well was epoxy coated.

 

Anticipated work in September:

  • Install process piping in valve chamber and meter chamber
  • Masonry walls for headworks building
  • Install site piping: 20-inch forcemain, 36-inch headworks effluent pipe, 4-inch effluent water line, underground odor control pipes
  • Small concrete pours: Sloped floor pours, 605′-10″ slab with odor control penetration, compressor pad, ATS/Transformer pad

 

Contract #2 work completed since project began (8/19/19):

  • Pump station bypass system set up and placed in service
  • Demolition of electrical equipment started
  • Wet well interior cleaned and prepared for epoxy coating
