Plainfield Charter Township - Northgate Phase 1 and 2 Water Main Replacement

Important Information

Access/Traffic: Local traffic will be maintained during water main construction. There may be times when your driveway is inaccessible because water main construction is occurring in front of your house or driveway restoration is taking place. The contractor will work with you ahead of time and will make special access arrangements with you if needed.

Mail: Mailboxes that interfere with water main construction will be temporarily relocated so that mail service can be maintained during construction. If your mailbox needs to be temporarily relocated, the contactor will inform you of where it has been moved to and when they anticipate it will be returned to its original location.

Garbage Pickup: The contractor will work with you and your waste hauler to maintain service throughout construction. If water main construction interferes with your waste haulers ability to pick up your garbage, the contractor will temporarily move your garbage bins to a central location and return them to the end of your driveway by the end of the work day.

Water Service: There will be times when your water service will be temporarily interrupted to facilitate water main connections or water service line replacement. The contractor or the Plainfield Water Department will inform you prior to this interruption taking place so that you can plan accordingly.

This week was a short week with the Fourth of July. Milbocker will not be on site Thursday or Friday this week. Water main was installed across Eldon and Miramar.

Next week Milbocker will complete water main installation in the cul-de-sac portion of Eldon and begin to fill the new water main along Eldon for testing the following week.

This week Milbocker continued installing water main along Eldon Street between Northgate and Miramar. The water main stubs were installed across Eldon Street along Northgate Street to set up for the second phase of the project.

Next week Milbocker will shut down the Miramar Avenue and Eldon Street intersection to install water main across the intersection. Water main installation in the Eldon cul-de-sac will be completed. Milbocker will not be on site next Thursday or Friday for the Fourth of July holiday. The site will be cleaned up as much as possible next week so that everyone can enjoy a long holiday weekend.

Milbocker has completed:

  • Driveway and sidewalk removals along Eldon.
  • Removed the topsoil along Eldon in preparation for water main construction.
  • Water main construction along Eldon between Hunsberger and Northgate.
  • Curb replacement at the Eldon/Hunsberger intersection in coordination with the KCRC project to repave Hunsberger.

Chop has removed all of the trees for water main construction along Eldon and Miramar.

Upcoming Work:

Milbocker will continue to install water main along Eldon next week. There will be times when Northgate and Miramar are closed next week to allow for the new water main to be installed across the road. Please drive around the work area while these closures are in place.

Trees were marked for removal with a pink “X” yesterday. Chop, Milbocker’s tree clearing subcontractor, is scheduled to begin removing trees on Monday, June 10. There is a possibility Chop will be on site to begin tree removal the week of June 3 if their schedule allows. Milbocker’s crew will be on site June 10 and begin water main construction along Eldon at Hunsberger. Milbocker plans to build the water main along Eldon this first week and then close Hunsberger on June 17 to install water main across the road and connect to the existing water main in Hunsberger.

The Kent County Road Commission (KCRC) will also have a project start on June 17 to repave Hunsberger from Plainfield to Coit. This project is separate from the water main work, but Plainfield Township and KCRC have been coordinating to limit impacts to residents.

Milbocker intends to start construction activities on site on Monday, June 10, 2024. Milbocker will construct the water main along Miramar Avenue and Eldon Street. New water services will be constructed up to the public right-of-way line, where they will connect to the existing water service line. Water main will generally be installed on the north side of Eldon Street and the west side of Miramar Avenue. Water main construction will take place in the public right-of-way, generally between the back of the sidewalk and the edge of the road. Trees and landscaping in this area will be removed for water main construction. If you wish to save any of your landscaping between the sidewalk and the road, it is recommended you move it before June 10, 2024. Trees and landscaping removed for construction purposes will not be replaced.

Tentative Construction Schedule:

  • June – Water main and water service construction on Eldon Street
  • July & August – Water main and water service construction on Miramar Avenue
  • September – Sidewalk, driveway, and lawn restoration throughout the entire project.

Upcoming Work: Tree clearing work will take place in early June.

Extra Notes: Water pressures in the area will not be changed as a result of this project.

The Kent County Road Commission (KCRC) will be repaving Hunsberger Avenue between Plainfield Avenue and Coit Avenue in June and July, 2024.
