This Week:

Schippers Excavating began water main construction on 10 Mile Road, east of Jewell Avenue. Water main was constructed from Jewell Avenue east towards Herrington Avenue. Schippers bore & jack subcontractor, Marksman, dropped off their equipment and materials in preparation for starting work on the bore & jack under 10 Mile Road next week. During construction, traffic is being maintained with temporary traffic signals which allow for one lane of traffic on the south lane of 10 Mile Road. The north lane is closed and is being used by Schippers to install the water main.

Next Week:

  • Schippers will continue water main construction on 10 Mile Road.
  • 10 Mile Road traffic will continue to be maintained with the temporary traffic signals.
  • Marksman will start construction of the bore & jack under 10 Mile Road at Herrington Avenue.

Please contact any project representative if you have questions or concerns.

Current Status/Progress Report

The delivery dates for the water main pipe were bumped up this week! The first truckloads of 16-inch ductile iron water main have arrived on site. Schippers Excavating has modified their schedule to start construction next Monday (5/9) along 10 Mile Road at Jewell Avenue. You may have seen our survey crews on site today placing stakes in preparation for water main construction next week.

Traffic will be maintained along 10 Mile Road with temporary traffic signals which allow for one lane of traffic to pass through the construction zone at a time. Please plan accordingly as this will add a minor delay.

Please contact any project representative below if you have questions or concerns.

What to Expect

Next Week

  • Water main construction to begin just east of Jewell Avenue and progress from west to east along 10 Mile Road.

Current Status/Progress Report

Tree clearing is wrapping up this week. Integrity Tree has removed trees as necessary for water main construction along the west side of Herrington Avenue and the north side of 10 Mile Road. Integrity Tree is now working on grinding the remainder of the stumps.

The delivery dates for the water main pipe have been delayed due to manufacturing delays. Schippers Excavating has modified their schedule to account this delay and now anticipates water main construction to begin in the second half of June. Once a more definitive start date has been determined we will post it here.

Please contact any project representative below if you have questions or concerns.

What to Expect

Early April

  • Tree clearing. Trees which will be removed in the public right-of-way will be marked this week. If you would like to keep any of the wood generated from tree clearing, please contact one of the project representatives.

Late June

  • Water main construction along Herrington Avenue. Water main will be constructed from south to north along Herrington Avenue.

Current Status/Progress Report

On February 14, 2022, the Plainfield Charter Township Board of Trustees awarded the water main construction contract to Schippers Excavating Inc. of West Olive, MI. This project is designed to extend the municipal water system and connect homes that have been affected by PFAS contamination.

Prior to the water main being installed, trees within the public road rights-of-way and easements will be cleared as necessary. Tree clearing is scheduled to begin the week of April 4. Trees will be marked for removal later this week. Schippers has indicated they intend to start water main construction the week of April 18, pending water main material delivery. The Schippers contract will construct the water main along the road and short water service stubs toward each house. You will receive more information regarding how to connect your water service from the stub into your house at a later date.

Water main will be installed along the west side of Herrington Avenue and the north side of 10 Mile Road and Brent Road. There will be short periods of time when water main is being installed in front of your houses and your driveway will be inaccessible. Schippers will work to restore driveways as soon as possible during the day and will ensure that all driveways are accessible by the end of the workday. Caution is advised while driving through the project area. For the safety of all residents and construction crews, we ask that residents stay out of the construction area at all times and be aware of construction equipment moving throughout the project area.
