Important Information

There will be times that the area in front of your homes is torn up and you will have limited access to your home. Please let us know if you have any special access needs and we will do our best to make arrangements with you.

To facilitate mail service, the Contractor will coordinate with you and the Post Office to temporarily relocate your mailbox to a central location. The Contractor also will work with you and your trash hauler to maintain service. Individual driveways may be closed during the day but will be restored to a drivable condition after each workday. Some landscaping within the construction limits will be removed. Vegetation within the right-of-way will not be replaced and other structures may not be replaced if deemed a traffic hazard by the Road Commission. You should move anything you would like to save and relocate it outside the right-of-way before construction commences.

Progress Report

Schippers battled the weather this week, but will have all the water services installed on Wallingford Drive by the end of the day today. The existing asphalt was milled off Wallingford Drive on Thursday in preparation for road reconstruction to begin next week. Schippers will complete the final water main tie-in next Tuesday and will then abandon the old water main by pumping flowable fill (a type of concrete) into the old water main.

Schipper’s paving contractor will pave the base course of asphalt on Wallingford Drive either at the end of the month or first thing in November. Schippers will also have concrete contractors working over the next few weeks to replace all of the concrete driveways affected by the water main construction. Kent County Road Commission has elected to replace some driveway approaches and concrete curb in addition to what was affected by the water main construction.

Lawn restoration and final top course paving will take place during the first two weeks of November after all of the major construction has been completed.

What to Expect This Week (October 26 – 31)

  • Final water main tie-in at Wallingford Drive and Brookgate Drive
  • Abandon the old water main by filling it with flowable fill.
  • Grade Wallingford Drive and prepare for the base course of asphalt the following week.
  • Restore driveways on Biddeford Drive and Biddeford Court.

Projected Timeline

  • Late-October
    • Finish road reconstruction on Wallingford Drive and finish driveway restoration
  • November

Water service installation

Progress Report

The base course of asphalt was placed on Biddeford Drive and Biddeford Court last week. Schippers Excavating will work this week to adjust the manhole covers in the road. Kent County Road Commission will work to finish concrete curb improvements before the final top course of asphalt is placed.

Schippers Excavating worked last week to locate and repair a leak in the new water main. This prevented the testing of the new water main from being completed last week, so water service installation was delayed to this week. Water service installation on Wallingford Drive will take place this week. The only water main work that remains to be completed is the water main tie-in at Brookgate Drive, which cannot take place until after the water service installation on Wallingford Drive is completed.

What to Expect This Week (October 19 – 24)

  • Water main testing and water service installation along Wallingford Drive.
  • Adjustment of storm and sanitary sewer manhole covers is Biddeford Drive and Biddeford Court.

Projected Timeline

  • Mid-October
    • Finish water services along Wallingford Drive and complete water main tie-in at the end of Biddeford Drive
    • Begin road reconstruction on Wallingford Drive
  • Late-October
    • Project completion

On July 13, the Plainfield Charter Township Board of Trustees awarded the Biddeford and Wallingford (Westgate Area) water main construction contract to Schippers Excavating, Inc. of West Olive, MI. You might ask: Why is Plainfield Township coordinating the construction project when I live in Alpine Township? The answer is that Alpine Township does not have its own municipal water system; rather, Plainfield Township supplies municipal water to the eastern portion of Alpine Township. Plainfield plans to complete this project to improve water system reliability in the neighborhood. The scope of the project will include replacement of water mains and service lines, complete road replacement and replacement of driveway approaches that are impacted by construction. In 2020, work will be completed in Biddeford Drive from 6 Mile Road to Westshire Drive, in Biddeford Court, and in Wallingford Drive from Biddeford Drive to Brookgate Drive. The Contractor intends to commence construction next week. Construction will begin on the north end of Biddeford Drive at 6 Mile Road, and progress south down Biddeford Drive. You will start to see MISS DIG flags, which mark existing underground utilities, and construction stakes showing up in your front yard in the coming days. Please do not remove the flags or stakes because that will cause delays in the construction project. For the duration of this construction project, we will provide regular updates that will inform you of what is happening presently and what you can expect to see coming up, including water main construction, traffic control, project safety, access to homes, etc. Please contact any project representative below if you have questions or concerns.

What to Expect Next Week (August 17 – 22)

  • You likely will see survey crews doing construction staking and utility companies marking the location of underground lines (MISS DIG).
  • Schippers will coordinate mailbox relocations with affected residents.
  • Schippers plans to begin replacing water main at Biddeford and 6 Mile.

Projected Timeline

  • Mid-August
    • Project Commencement
  • Mid-October
    • Project Completion
