The Contractor is ready to return to Sherman Boulevard to install the decorative brick crosswalks and the new concrete intersection for Peck Street. This will unfortunately involve some traffic disruptions on Sherman Boulevard again.

However, Sherman Boulevard will not be closed to traffic this time, but it will be narrowed to one lane in each direction beginning Monday, April 26, 2021.  The lane reductions will take place between Leahy and Jefferson. All work will be taking place between Sanford and Hoyt.

You have probably seen the barrels and signs laying along Sherman Boulevard. These will be put in place next Monday morning. The work in the road will actually begin Tuesday, but the traffic control needs to be installed on Monday. The work will be staged so that it can be done half at a time and traffic can be maintained through the Sherman Boulevard corridor.  However, side streets will have limited access or be closed at Sherman within the work zone.

Stage 1 (April 26 – June 1)

  • Traffic on Sherman will be moved to south half between Leahy and Jefferson – 1 lane in each direction.
  • Peck closed at Manahan and detoured to Sanford, but open to local traffic (school, gas station, businesses)
  • No access from Sherman to Peck north or from Peck to Sherman from the north, but open to south.
  • Baker will be closed at Hume and Manahan (allowing local traffic to homes, school, businesses) – no access to/from Sherman at Baker. Detoured to Sanford.
  • Maffett Closed at Sherman for the crosswalk to be built on the north side of Sherman
  • Leahy North Closed at Sherman for the crosswalk to be built on the north side of Sherman
  • Hoyt crosswalks will be built north and south of Sherman, so Hoyt will be closed at Hume and Manahan with a Detour to Sanford (April 27 – June 1), then Baker (June 1 – 18) as appropriate.
  • Hoyt to remain open to local businesses and homes, but no access to/from Sherman.

During this Stage, the following will be built:

  • North half of Peck intersection in concrete
  • Crosswalk on Peck north of Sherman
  • North half of crosswalks on Sherman at Sanford, Peck and Baker
  • Crosswalks on Baker north and south of Sherman

Stage 2 (June 1 – 30)

  • Traffic on Sherman moved to north half between Leahy and Jefferson – 1 lane in each direction.
  • Baker will be open, but Sanford will be closed at Hume and Manahan (allowing local traffic to homes, businesses) – no access to/from Sherman at Sanford. Detoured to Baker.
  • Peck closed at Hume and detoured to Baker, but open to local traffic (post office, businesses)
  • No access from Sherman to Peck south or from Peck to Sherman from the south, but open to north.
  • Leahy South will have one lane open so the crosswalk south of Sherman can be built half at a time since it is a dead end.

During this Stage, the following will be built:

  • South half of Peck intersection in concrete
  • Crosswalk on Peck south of Sherman
  • South half of crosswalks on Sherman at Sanford, Peck and Baker
  • Crosswalks on Sanford north and south of Sherman
