The heat last week didn’t stop Brenner Excavating from pushing along with progress on Kinney Avenue. Here’s this weeks’ update:
Work Completed Last Week
- 24-inch mainline storm sewer was installed from Thornwyk Ave. to #1026 Kinney (just north of Macey Dr.). Various catch basin leads were also installed.
- The roadway was built up to the gravel base on the northbound lane of Kinney Avenue from Edinboro St. to Thornwyk Dr.
- The GVSU Private Drive was fully restored with topsoil, fertilizer and grass seed.
Anticipated Work This Week
- Continue installing mainline storm sewer from just north Macy Avenue to the north. Mainline storm sewer is anticipated to be completed before the end of the week. Brenner will then double back to install various catch basin and yard basin leads north of Edinboro Street.
- Continue placing sand subbase and aggregate base within the northbound lane of Kinney Avenue from Thornwyk Dr. to the northern project limits. After the northbound lane is built up to the gravel base, the southbound lane will be built beginning at Edinboro St. and heading north.
- Concrete sidewalk will be fully replaced on the west side of Kinney Ave. between GVSU Private Drive and Imperial Avenue – work is anticipated to begin on Monday, July 1 by Martin J. Concrete. For all affected residents, please refrain from driving over the concrete sidewalk for 7 days to allow for proper curing. Please park on the gravel surface of the new road or a nearby side street.
The remainder of this weeks’ construction activities will be concentrated between #1060 and #1102 Kinney Ave. Local traffic seeking to travel through this area should expect delays or seek an alternate route.
Brenner has been utilizing a trench box to install the storm sewer and keep the workers safe from trench collapses
The design plans are continuously referenced to ensure that the underground utilities are safely and properly installed
Let’s just say the new reinforced concrete storm sewer pipes will be an upgrade
