Further Information
Water Service Connection Quotes: Residents who have not yet obtained a quote for their water service connection are encouraged to contact McDonald Plumbing for a property-specific quote. Please note that once excavation begins, it may take up to a month before the work is completed and irrigation systems are restored. For quotes, contact Grace Thumser at McDonald Plumbing at (616) 698-6771.
Project-Covered Costs: The cost of the work performed by McDonald Plumbing will be covered by the project. Homeowners will only be responsible for additional costs if they choose copper piping instead of the default plastic for the private portion of the water service connection.
Well Abandonment Information: The grant funding for this project does not require well abandonment, nor does the Township have an ordinance mandating it. Residents who wish to retain their well for irrigation purposes may do so without needing an exemption. However, please be aware that Township regulations state:
- If a property is adjacent to a municipal water main and the well fails, no new well will be permitted.
- Once the project is complete and grant funds are expended, the opportunity for free well abandonment will no longer be available.
- If a homeowner later decides (or is required due to well failure) to connect their irrigation to the municipal water supply, they will be responsible for the costs associated with that transition.
Catch Basin Protection: The Kent County Road Commission enforces standard construction specifications for soil erosion and sedimentation control on all projects within its jurisdiction. Many residents have asked about the black and orange fabric bags placed in some catch basins within the project area. These bags are required by the road commission to prevent dirt and construction debris from entering the storm system, which could restrict sewer capacity during wet weather.
Contractors are responsible for maintaining and emptying these bags as needed. However, they cannot be removed until the road commission determines that grass growth has been sufficiently reestablished to prevent further construction debris from entering the system.
