In 2019, Jim Schmidt donated 67 acres of land to Grand Haven Charter Township to be made into a park. Prein&Newhof is working with Grand Haven Charter Township to design, bid, and oversee construction for Phase One of Schmidt Heritage Park.

This phase is planned to have 12 pickleball courts, six soccer fields, a softball field and a baseball field, a trail around the perimeter of the park, restrooms, shelters, and a parking lot. The entrance to the park will be on Ferris Street across from Hofma Park.

Future phases will include two youth baseball diamonds and two softball fields along with more restrooms, shelter, and parking.
