Here is a quick update on the progress of construction on Leahy Street between Sherman and Barney in Muskegon Heights.

Work Completed This Past Week

  • Crews completed all of the water service replacements to the new water main in Leahy and Hume.
  • Crews installed the last few drainage structures that needed to be installed.
  • Crews placed some maintenance gravel on Leahy for the upcoming Holiday weekend to make travel easier.
  • A water main connection was completed at the north end of Barney and Leahy.

Work Anticipated Week of July 3, 2023

  • Construction crews are not planning to work Monday, July 3, or Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
  • City crews will be in the area north of Barney and along Barney between Peck and Wood Streets exercising existing water main valves on Monday and Wednesday, July 3 & 5.
  • The Contractor is planning to make a final connection to the City water main at Barney and Leahy.  Due to some existing water main valves not closing completely yesterday, this work was not completed.  This work is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 6, 2023.  This means residents may loose water along Barney between Peck and Wood Streets and some areas north of Barney for a few hours while these connections are made.  The City and Contractor will do their best to limit the interruption.
  • Road grading may begin where the road is cut down for the placement of road base gravel which may begin to be delivered next week.

Work Anticipated Week of July 10, 2023

  • Road grading will continue and preparations for sidewalk replacement, driveway replacement as well as concrete curb and gutter installation will begin.
