Health Department: Grand River E. Coli Levels ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Disturbing’

The recent floodings around Grand Rapids have led Fox 17 to test the Grand River for water quality at Prein&Newhof’s laboratory. The results?  High and unsafe levels of E. Coli bacteria. The Kent County Health Department has since done its own testing and issued a warning to avoid contact with the flood waters.

Bob Erickson, our lab supervisor, was featured in the story. He commented that he has “never [seen] numbers this high for a recreational use.”

Please take caution when coming into contact with any stormwater. You can get your well water tested at our laboratory.
