James Hegarty, PE retired in May after 25 years at Prein&Newhof. With a background in pipe sales, Jim joined P&N in 1993, and was given the directive to “get more work.” During his career, Jim approached his work with an entrepreneurial mindset, applying his broad working knowledge of civil engineering to find new client relationships and to identify project opportunities. He often put his P&N peers first, helping them develop their own business development skills. He was a valuable resource for information on project funding and grants, and took a special interest in the design and application of pipelines and dams.
Jim was active in many professional organizations. He served as President of the American Society of Civil Engineers Michigan Section from 2000 to 2001, and founded the ASCE–MI Mackinac Scholarship. He was a member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, Conservation Resource Alliance, Land Conservancy of West Michigan, Michigan River Partnership, Michigan Water Environment Association, MSU Water Fellows, and the Muskegon River Watershed Assembly.
We thank Jim for his zealous service to P&N and wish him well in his retirement.
