Prein&Newhof is proud to announce five newly–elected Senior Associates: Matt Hulst, Mike Schwartz, Jeff Smith, John VerPlank, and Tim Woodburne, who join 25 of their peers who also hold this honor. To be named a Senior Associate at Prein&Newhof, one must demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to the company.
P&N Senior Associates are distinguished by placing the company’s benefit before their personal gain, by their high-level of performance in their given field of work, by sound project management, wise decision-making skills, and respectful and encouraging interactions with their colleagues. Once nominated and elected to this position, Senior Associates meet an established level of company stock ownership by way of their personal investment and are prepared to serve on the Prein&Newhof Board of Directors if selected.
Matt Hulst, PE joined P&N in 2006 after graduating from Calvin College with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. In 2019, he earned his Professional Engineer (PE) License for the State of Michigan. As a senior engineer, Matt has worked on pump stations, sanitary sewer, water main, road reconstruction, parks, campgrounds, and marine related projects. Matt is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Mike Schwartz, PE started at P&N in 1998 and went on to earn his PE License in the State of Michigan in 2002. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Central Florida. As a senior engineer, he has worked on municipal water and wastewater systems, roadway design, storm water systems, and asset management. Mike also has experience on private residential plats, condos, schools, apartment complexes and golf courses. Mike is a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) and the Michigan Environmental Health Association (MEHA).
Jeff Smith began at P&N in 2004 as a CADD technician after earning his Associates Degree in CAD from ITT Technical Institute. Jeff has worked on a wide variety of civil projects involving transmission mains, water supply systems, wastewater collection systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, roads and streets, airports, industrial site development, boundary surveys, environmental remediation plans, industrial and residential plats, non–motorized facilities, and structural projects.
John VerPlank, PE, LEED AP joined P&N in 2015 as a senior engineer with experience in project management, land development, public utility extensions, storm water detention design, and roadway design. John holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. He earned his PE License in the State of Michigan in 2003, and he is also a Licensed Residential Builder in Michigan. He is an Accredited Professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED AP). John is a member of the Grand Rapids Economic Club.
Tim Woodburne, CPG joined P&N’s environmental group in 1993, after earning his Master of Science in Geology from Michigan State University. As a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) since 2000, Tim assists with groundwater exploration and test drilling. He has experience managing hydrogeologic studies at industrial and commercial properties, performing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, and monitoring groundwater conditions. Tim is a member of the Michigan Association of Environmental Professionals and the American Institute of Professional Geologists, Michigan Section where he served as the 2018 President.
