The former boat launch in Hart’s John Gurney Park was aging, too narrow, and not handicap-accessible. The floating dock on site also needed to be replaced. P&N’s design widened the launch to the DNR standard, added retaining walls to prevent erosion, and made the parking lot ADA accessible.
The new ramp has an 11% slope. To make it ADA accessible, P&N designed a concrete walkway with 8% slope between the parking lot and the skid pier. Both the parking lot and the walkway are lined with attractive wooden ballards for additional safety.
When reviewing plans for the project, the MDNR asked that the new skid pier be anchored to the ADA walkway. P&N design an innovative anchoring system that made it easy to install the pier each spring, and lift it out again each fall.
P&N designed and oversaw construction for the project. They were also responsible for grant applications, DEQ permitting, sediment testing, underwater inspection, and surveying.
