Hayes Street Improvements
Grand Haven Charter Township
MDOT-funded street upgrade brings better stormwater system with minimal inconvenience to neighbors.
Grand Haven Charter Township retained P&N to widen and upgrade 3,600 feet of Hayes Street. The project included bituminous pavement, storm sewer, and curb and gutter.
To find the best drainage solution, P&N compared both concrete curb/gutter and bituminous valley gutter. Concrete curb/gutter was chosen, despite a slightly higher cost, because it was better able to accommodate the grading along Hayes Street.
The design was completed in a very narrow timeframe to meet MDOT letting schedules. The project also required obtaining numerous easements.
Hayes Street is in an industrial area, so the project was completed in phases to minimize disruption and access to the businesses. During construction, the P&N team worked closely with business owners to coordinate construction activities and minimize inconveniences. All business were able to maintain production throughout the project.
This project was funded by the MDOT Local Improvement Plan, by Tax Increment Financing through the Township’s Downtown Development Authority, and by the Ottawa County Road Commission.
