Schoolcraft honors council member with Sidewalk Master Plan

May 6, 2016

By Dan Lewis, PE, Prein&Newhof Project Manager

On May 2, I attended the Village of Schoolcraft meeting to present the Sidewalk Master Plan honoring council member and Village Trustee Carl Tackett, who recently passed away.

Carl was the head of the sidewalk committee for many years. It was his dream to have a long–term plan for sidewalks in the village, and the Department of Public Works finished their work on this project just as Carl passed. Prein&Newhof put together a map using the Department of Public Work’s mark-ups and dedicated the plan in Carl’s honor.

Carl was also involved with the wellhead protection program, and Tom Wheat and I worked with him often.  He will be missed by P&N, and certainly missed by his community the Village of Schoolcraft, which he served whole-heartedly.

I will remember Carl every time my daughters open their piggy banks to get out money: a couple years ago, we visited Carl’s antique shop and he gave each of them a gold dollar coin. They hold it precious and don’t plan on spending it. Of course, those two $1 coins cost me $20 that we spent in the store that day – oh Carl, you were a sly one!
