Indeed, the real genius of the project lies in the low-impact design created by Prein&Newhof. Rather than imposing on the landscape a series of artificial constructs to perform the filtering functions, these innovative engineers looked to nature’s own toolbox for solutions. “Engineers of this generation are very environmentally conscious,” said Washler. “There are countless examples of how today’s engineer is a good steward of natural resources. For example, many of the materials specified in public works projects are recycled.”
