Progress Report:
- 48th Avenue: Testing of the 24-inch water main within the roundabout limits was completed as of last week. The paving crew paved the base course and leveling course lifts last week spanning from the N. Schut Greenhouses to just north of Oak Lane Drive. Driveways also received the first of two lifts of asphalt.
- Baldwin Street/48th Avenue Roundabout: The contractor for the roundabout will continue to work in the intersection this week.
Upcoming Work:
- 48th Avenue: The contractor plans on paving the top course spanning from Port Sheldon Street to just north of Oak Lane Drive on Tuesday of this week. Driveways in this stretch will also receive the top paving course. Paving may take more than one day to complete. Following paving, 48th Avenue will still remain closed to through traffic but will remain open to local traffic and businesses.
Notes:
48th Avenue remains closed to through traffic from Port Sheldon Street to Baldwin Street. The intersection at Baldwin Street and 48th Avenue remains closed from every direction for the roundabout construction. Through traffic should continue to follow the posted detour signage. Please note that the road closures will remain in place even after paving.
Residents along 48th Avenue should be aware that crews will be on site restoring the roads and greenspace around the roads, especially on Tuesday when paving occurs. There will most likely be traffic flaggers present during paving.
Local traffic needing access to Sutherland Springs Condominium should do so by turning onto 48th Avenue from Tyler Street due to paving. With that being said, local traffic may be redirected by the paving flaggers depending on where the pavers are at.
We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road. Police will continue to monitor the site to ensure safe working conditions and to ensure the road is only being used by those who live or work on this road. Local traffic should continue to be especially mindful as there will be multiple crews on site next week. The contractor is aware of the difficult traffic situation and will accommodate to the best of their ability.
