Cannon Township - Belding Road Sewer Replacement - Grass Lake Lift Station to Myers Lake Ave

Important Information

Cannon and Courtland Townships are replacing a 12-inch shared trunk sewer along the south side of Belding Road with a 21-inch PVC pipeline. The work will take place between the Grass Lake Lift Station (6208 Belding Rd) and Myers Lake Avenue from June through September 2026. The existing sanitary sewer is being replaced because it is nearing the end of its useful life.

Access/Traffic:

Construction will require a lane shift on Belding Road. Eastbound traffic will be sifted into the center turn lane through the construction zone for the duration of the project. Road closures and detour routes of Egypt Valley Ave. and Myers Lake Ave. will be required to install the new sewer across these intersections. Homeowners will have limited driveway access during the time the sewer is installed across it, but access will be available at the end of each work day.

Mail:

The Contractor will work with residents to maintain mail and package delivery throughout construction.

Garbage Pickup:

The Contractor will work with residents to maintain garbage disposal throughout construction.

August 25, 2026

Progress Report:

Dean’s continues to progress east with new sanitary sewer installation.

Concrete curbs were replaced at Egypt Valley last week as well as concrete sidewalk around the lift station.

Dean’s is working on shoulder restoration between the lift station and Egypt Valley in preparation for paving.

Upcoming Work:

Myers Lake will be closed for one week to install the new sewer through the intersection in the second half of September. The closure of Myers Lake is being coordinated closely with other projects and detour routes in the area.

August 14, 2026

Dean’s continues to make progress on the sanitary sewer replacement along Belding Road. The new sewer was installed through the Egypt Valley intersection this week. Next week concrete curb will be replaced at the Egypt Valley intersection and Dean’s will work on shoulder restoration between the lift station and Egypt Valley. Sanitary sewer construction will continue east of Egypt Valley.
July 31, 2026

Dean’s continues to progress east with the new 21-inch PVC sanitary sewer. Dean’s had Diversified Dewatering install a groundwater dewatering system end of this week. The existing soils have changed to mostly sand which allows for easier groundwater dewatering. Prior to this week the existing soils were primarily clay at the bottom of the trench which do not allow for a traditional dewatering system to be installed. The dewatering system should help speed up the installation of the pipe up toward Egypt Valley.

Sewer installation will continue next week towards Egypt Valley.
July 21, 2026

Progress Report:

21-inch PVC sanitary sewer is currently being installed along the south side of Belding Road, west of Egypt Valley Avenue. Dean’s Excavating has been battling a tough groundwater condition which has made the sanitary sewer replacement progress slower than anticipated. As construction progresses east the sanitary sewer is expected to be above the groundwater elevation which will help with increase productivity.
July 10, 2026

Progress Report:

Dean’s has completed the force main replacement in front of the lift station building and set the new meter manhole. New gravity sanitary sewer has been connected to the existing lift station and replaced out to the first manhole along Belding Road. This work required complex bypass pumping plans to maintain live sanitary sewer flows while the pipes were replaced.

Upcoming Work:

Dean’s will begin replacing the existing sanitary sewer along Belding Road working from the lift station building to the east. Existing sanitary sewer flows will be bypass pumped around the work area.
June 19, 2026

Dean’s Excavating mobilized to the site this week and has begun force main replacement work at the Grass Lake Lift Station Site. Force main work will continue next week. The old force main must be replaced to make room for the new gravity sanitary sewer which is close to and deeper than the existing force main leaving the lift station.

May 15, 2026

Progress Report:

Sanitary sewer construction is scheduled to begin the week of June 15. A lane shift for eastbound traffic along Belding Road will be put in place at this time and remain in place until the end of the project. Construction is currently scheduled to be completed by the middle of September. Check back here for regular updates once construction starts.
