Cannon Township - Cannon Trail Shared Use Pathway: Kies Street and Hickory Drive

Important Information

This much anticipated gap in the Cannon Trail is now under construction! This section will connect to the path at the end of Hickory Drive and extend to the existing pathway at the corner of Kies Street and Courtland Drive. Upon completion of this section, the Cannon Trail will extend all the way from downtown Cannonsburg to the border with the City of Rockford on 10 Mile Road!

Construction is anticipated to begin the week of August 24, 2026, and be wrapped up by mid-November 2026. The contractor plans to start in Luton Park and work east to Hickory Drive, and then in a few weeks start working west to Courtland Drive.

Tree removal is expected to begin on August 31, 2026.

Access/Traffic:
While no long-term lane closures are anticipated, shoulder closures will be frequent all along Kies Street during construction. Please be safe: Let’s all slow down and give the contractor room to work!

Progress Report:

Brenner Excavating made great progress this week, tilling and grading a significant stretch of the pathway from the edge of Luton Park all the way to the Hickory Drive intersection. Tree removals are also well underway on Kies Street, with Alpine Tree Removal expected to complete that work by next Wednesday.

Upcoming Work:

Next week Brenner Excavating will continue tilling and grading, pushing into the Hickory Drive section. Alpine Tree Removal will also be wrapping up tree removals on Kies Street, clearing the way for pathway construction to follow.

August 25, 2026

Progress Report:

As you may have seen, The Contractor (Brenner Excavating) is preparing to start construction this week. They have staged some of their equipment in the parking lot off of Kies Street. Construction staking is underway and should be completed from Luton Park through Hickory Court by the end of the week. The Contractor will begin removing topsoil shortly.

Upcoming Work:

The Contractor will continue to remove topsoil and clear the route for the path working east from Luton Park.

Most of the trees to be removed have been marked, but all should be marked by August 28 in anticipation of Alpine Tree Service starting tree removals on Monday August 31.
