City of Hart - Downtown Plaza

Important Information

The City of Hart is embarking on a rebuild of its downtown. This project will reconfigure the State Street and Main Street intersection to improve pedestrian safety, and make it a more versatile space for events. Work will include all new water main and storm sewer infrastructure, and larger pedestrian gathering spaces. To beautify the space new landscaping, trees, and lighting will be installed throughout the space. A new gathering area will be developed along State Street which will feature a new community fire place.

Access/Traffic:

Work will be completed in multiple phases require detours and traffic shifts. Detours will be posted.

Construction of the Downtown Plaza continues with the completion of all underground work!  Road rebuilding is well underway with the installation of curb on Main Street and State Street east of State St centerline.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Road rebuilding continues on Main St. and State St. with the installation of curb.
  • Electrical conduit installed on Main St. and State St.
  • Irrigation lines installed on Main St. and State St.
  • Work has begun behind the curb with the installation of planter boxes and sidewalk grading.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Grading behind the curb in preparation for the installation of sidewalks.
  • Continue to pour concrete for planter boxes.

Construction on State Street and Main Street continues with storm sewer and water main installation. Road rebuilding begins this week on Main Street east of State Street.

North bound and south bound traffic on State Street is being maintained until work is completed on Main Street East of State Street. Road closure will be in place from the centerline of State Street east to the project limits. Main Street traffic east of State Street must continue to follow the posted detour.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Water main connected to the existing system on State St. south of Main St.
  • Water service installation on State St. south of Main St.
  • Continued storm sewer installation on State St. east of the road centerline.
  • Curb and sidewalk removed on Main St. east of State St. centerline.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Continue site grading in preparation for curb concrete pour.
  • Curb installation on State St and Main St. east of State St. centerline.
  • Form and install concrete light pole bases and planter boxes east of State St. centerline.
  • Installation of insertion valve on Main St. west of State St.

Construction on State Street and Main Street continues with storm sewer installation and water service connections to the businesses. 

North bound and south bound traffic on State Street is being maintained until work is completed on Main Street East of State Street. Road closure will be in place from the centerline of State Street east to the project limits. Main Street traffic east of State Street must continue to follow the posted detour.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Water main connected to the existing system on Main St. east of State St.
  • Water service installations completed on Main St. east of State St.
  • Storm sewer installed on State St. east of the road centerline.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Removal of sidewalk and curb on Main Street, east of State St.
  • Site grading in preparation for curb concrete pour.
  • Installation of electrical conduit.
  • Installation of irrigation lines.
  • Curb installation is currently scheduled for May 4th.

Construction on State Street and Main Street is moving quickly, with the completion of utility mains installation on Main Street East of State Street. 

North bound and south bound traffic on State Street is being maintained until work is completed on Main Street East of State Street. Road closure will be in place from the centerline of State Street east to the project limits. Main Street traffic east of State Street must continue to follow the posted detour.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Water main installation on Main Street, east of State Street.
  • Water main tested, cleaned, and sampled.
  • Storm sewer installed on Main Street, east of State Street.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Water main will be connected to the existing system at the east limit of the project on Monday April 20th.
  • Water service connections from the new main to the businesses on Main Street.
  • Removal of sidewalk on Main Street, east of State Street.
  • Continue storm sewer installation on State Street east of the road centerline.

Construction on State Street and Main Street has officially begun! Wadel has made significant progress on removals and utility replacements over the past week. Work on utilities will continue over the next week or two.

After today, northbound and southbound traffic on State Street will be maintained until work is completed on Main Street East of State Street. Main Street traffic east of State Street must follow the posted detour.

Work Completed:

  • Removal of the roadway has begun.
  • Sanitary sewer installation was completed on Main Street.
  • Storm sewer work began on Main Street.
  • Water main was installed on State Street was extended easterly, across State Street to Main Street.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Water main installation will continue on Main Street east of State Street to the east project limit. Once this is installed testing and cleaning of the new main will begin prior to connecting it to the system.
  • Storm Sewer installation on Main Street east of State Street will continue.
