City of Hart - Downtown Plaza

Important Information

The City of Hart is embarking on a rebuild of its downtown. This project will reconfigure the State Street and Main Street intersection to improve pedestrian safety, and make it a more versatile space for events. Work will include all new water main and storm sewer infrastructure, and larger pedestrian gathering spaces. To beautify the space new landscaping, trees, and lighting will be installed throughout the space. A new gathering area will be developed along State Street which will feature a new community fire place.

Access/Traffic:

Work will be completed in multiple phases require detours and traffic shifts. Detours will be posted.

July 22, 2026

We’re seeing green! Plants and trees are being placed throughout the site this week.  Additionally, planter pots are being placed, and preparations are being made to begin stone veneer.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Planter boxes began being filled in preparation for plantings.
  • Concrete sealer placed on the sidewalk east of State Street.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Planter pots are being installed ahead of landscapers.
  • Landscapers are filling planter boxes with trees and plants.
  • Stone veneer will begin to be placed.
  • The fireplace continues to be constructed.
July 13, 2026

All concrete sidewalk and roadway is now complete! This week remaining asphalt roadway will be placed and site landscaping will begin.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Completed placing all sidewalk.
  • Completed placing all concrete roadway.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Electricians will finish pulling wire for light poles.
  • Light poles will be finished offsite.
  • Remaining asphalt surface will be placed.
  • Landscapers will finish the irrigation system and begin placing trees/plants.

Rebuilding of the site is progressing nicely with concrete foundations west of State Street.  This week decorative sidewalk and concrete roadway rebuilding will continue.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Completed all remaining planter boxes.
  • Completed fireplace and clock tower foundations.
  • Completed all remaining planter pot foundations
  • Site grading in preparation for decorative sidewalk.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Complete all remaining decorative sidewalk.
  • Sandblasting and painting existing light poles.
  • Final grading in State in preparation for concrete placement.

Work continued on State Street placing concrete footings, planter boxes, and seat walls.  This week light poles will be refinished and grading will begin in preparation of sidewalk west of State Street.

 Work Completed Last Week:

  • Placed planter boxes west of State.
  • Placed clock tower foundation.
  • Placed Christmas tree footings.
  • Irrigation lines run through previously placed conduit.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Continue placing concrete planter boxes.
  • Continue placing concrete footings for the fireplace.

Work over the past week focused on concrete footings along State Street, electrical conduit and Planter Boxes. Concrete work for seat walls, the fireplace and the remaining planter boxes will continue this week. After this week it is expected that the majority of all below grade work will be completed and all remaining work will be above grade.

  • Planter boxes were worked on in State Street.
  • All remaining light pole bases were completed.
  • Seat wall footings were poured.
  • Conduit for electrical is nearly complete.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • All remaining planter boxes will be poured.

Main Street east of State Street is now open for pedestrian use! Work on irrigation, lighting and plantings still remain to be completed, but the site will remain mostly open. Work on the west side of the project site is in full swing with construction of the footings for the fireplace, light poles and seat walls underway.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Planter boxes were worked on in State Street.
  • HMA was placed on Main Street at both ends.
  • Site was prepared for the Asparagus festival and the east side was opened.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Work will continue on seat walls, fireplace footing, light pole bases and the planter boxes in State Street.
  • Colored concrete will be installed on State Street.
June 8, 2026

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Decorative concrete poured on East Main Street.
  • Planter boxes poured on the east side of State Street.
  • Completed pouring all concrete light pole bases.
  • Conduit and irrigation installed west of State Street.
  • Continued installing sidewalk ramps at the intersection of State and Main

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Continue installing decorative concrete sidewalk west of State Street.
  • Continue pouring concrete roadway in State Street and E. Main Street.
  • Complete installation of planter boxes.
  • Install asphalt pavement on Main Street, east of State Street.

Construction of the Downtown Plaza is moving quickly with the completion of all curb and non-decorative sidewalk.  This week decorative sidewalk will be completed and concrete roadway installation will begin.

  • Rebuilding continues with the completion of all curb, driveway approaches, and non-decorative sidewalk.
  • Began pouring decorative sidewalk on Main St, east of State St.
  • Poured light pole bases and planter boxes on Main St.

Construction of the Downtown Plaza continues with the completion of all underground work!  Road rebuilding is well underway with the installation of curb on Main Street and State Street east of State St centerline.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Road rebuilding continues on Main St. and State St. with the installation of curb.
  • Electrical conduit installed on Main St. and State St.
  • Irrigation lines installed on Main St. and State St.
  • Work has begun behind the curb with the installation of planter boxes and sidewalk grading.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Grading behind the curb in preparation for the installation of sidewalks.

Construction on State Street and Main Street continues with storm sewer and water main installation. Road rebuilding begins this week on Main Street east of State Street.

North bound and south bound traffic on State Street is being maintained until work is completed on Main Street East of State Street. Road closure will be in place from the centerline of State Street east to the project limits. Main Street traffic east of State Street must continue to follow the posted detour.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • Water main connected to the existing system on State St. south of Main St.
  • Water service installation on State St. south of Main St.
  • Continued storm sewer installation on State St. east of the road centerline.
  • Curb and sidewalk removed on Main St. east of State St. centerline.

Anticipated Work This Week:

  • Continue site grading in preparation for curb concrete pour.
  • Curb installation on State St and Main St. east of State St. centerline.
  • Form and install concrete light pole bases and planter boxes east of State St. centerline.
  • Installation of insertion valve on Main St. west of State St.
