Holland Charter Township will be replacing/upsizing the wastewater trunk sewer from a pump station along Lakewood Blvd near US-31 to the east to 120th Avenue, and north on 120th Avenue to James Street.
The project will include lane closures, road closures/detouring, utility excavation/installation, pavement removals, and restoration activities.

Lakewood Blvd and 120th Ave Detour (Starting 07/28/2026)Progress Report:
K&R continues to lay 21-inch gravity sewer on 120th Ave heading north towards James Street. Restoration of Lakewood Blvd has begun with new curb and asphalt being installed. Restoration of Lakewood Blvd will continue throughout the next couple weeks. Road closure and traffic control on Lakewood Blvd will remain in effect until work in the road is complete and the barricades are removed.
Progress Report:
K&R has completed laying gravity sewer in the Lakewood Blvd and 120th Ave intersection and has begun laying 21-inch gravity sewer on 120th Ave heading north towards James St. A road crew has begun rebuilding road on Lakewood Blvd heading east toward 120th.
Upcoming Work:
Milling of the western lanes on 120th Ave from Lakewood Blvd to James St is anticipated to occur early this week. Local traffic will continue to have access via the eastern lanes.

This past week, K&R laid gravity sewer and completed some connections to the existing systems in the Lakewood Blvd and 120th Ave intersection.

K&R will continue to lay gravity sewer and connect to existing systems in the intersection this week. As underground work along Lakewood Blvd nears completion, a K&R road crew is anticipated to begin rebuilding the road.
Phase 2 of the project has begun with the closure of the intersection of Lakewood Blvd and 120th Ave this past Tuesday (July 28). Milling of the intersection and a portion of the three western lanes on 120th was completed Tuesday. The location of the bypass connection to Pump Station No. 20 was moved to the east side of the intersection. K&R is nearing the end of laying gravity sewer on E Lakewood Blvd before they pivot to laying gravity sewer on 120th Ave heading north towards James Street.

K&R continues to install 24-inch gravity sewer along E Lakewood Blvd towards 120th Ave. This past week K&R successfully completed air testing another stretch of gravity sewer along E Lakewood Blvd.

This week the closure of the Lakewood Blvd and 120th Ave intersection will begin on TUESDAY, JULY 28. See the map above for the detour routes. Local traffic will have access to their property for the duration of the closure. Following the closure of the intersection, the west lanes of 120th Ave will be removed.

K&R continues to install 24-inch gravity sewer along E Lakewood Blvd towards 120th Ave. Bypass pumping operations for the existing flow were utilized to temporarily connect a new manhole to an existing manhole. Once the laterals downstream of this temporary connection have been transferred to the new sanitary sewer, this section of existing sanitary sewer will be ready for abandonment. Earlier this week, all gravity sewer downstream of the temporary connection back to PS No. 2 was air tested and passed.

Following the relocation of existing utilities, K&R returned onsite Monday morning and continued progress on the installation of 24-inch gravity sanitary sewer along E Lakewood Blvd towards 120th Ave.
Upcoming Work:
Next week K&R will continue to install 24-inch gravity sanitary sewer along E Lakewood Blvd. Bypass pumping operations are expected to begin as well to maintain flow during the installation of the next manhole.

The jack & bore of the 42″ steel casing under the box culvert near US-31 is now complete. K&R has begun excavation of the existing gravity sewer pipe in front of the pump station. Bypass pumping operations of the existing sewer flow are underway as well. Consumers Energy plans to be onsite this later this week to move the power poles along the south side of Lakewood Blvd.
