Progress Report:
48th Avenue: The contractor began testing of the 24-inch water main within the roundabout project limits. The road crew finalized work on the road and driveway aggregate base just north of Oak Lane Drive in preparation for paving.
Baldwin Street/48th Avenue Roundabout: Utility companies continued to work on and relocate utilities in and around the intersection.
Upcoming Work:
48th Avenue: Testing of the 24-inch water main within the roundabout limits will most likely continue into next week. There is a possibility the contractor will resume laying some of the 24-inch transmission main pipe later in the week. This would occur just south of the intersection at Baldwin Street and 48th Avenue.
Paving is scheduled for early next week: they will pave the base course lift of asphalt on Monday and pave the leveling course on Tuesday, spanning from the N. Schut Greenhouses to just north of Oak Lane Drive. Driveways will also receive the first of two lifts of asphalt on Tuesday. Utility companies will most likely continue to work in the roundabout project limits throughout next week.
Notes:
48th Avenue remains closed to through traffic from Port Sheldon Street to Baldwin Street. The intersection at Baldwin Street and 48th Avenue remains closed from every direction for the roundabout construction. Through traffic should continue to follow the posted detour signage.
Residents along 48th Avenue should be aware that crews will be on site restoring the roads and greenspace around the roads, especially on Monday and Tuesday when paving occurs. There will most likely be traffic flaggers present during paving.
Local traffic needing access to Sutherland Springs Condominium should do so by turning onto 48th Avenue from Port Sheldon Street due to paving occurring north of N. Schut Greenhouses.
We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road. Police will continue to monitor the site to ensure safe working conditions and to ensure the road is only being used by those who live or work on this road. Local traffic should continue to be especially mindful as there will be multiple crews on site next week. The contractor is aware of the difficult traffic situation and will accommodate to the best of their ability.
