City of Muskegon - Catherine Avenue Reconstruction

Important Information

The City will be reconstructing Catherine Avenue from Irwin Avenue to Wood Street, including new water main, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer. Water services will be replaced into the residences.

Access/Traffic:
Traffic to homes will be maintained with short term interruptions during work in front of the residence. Notification will be provided prior to interruptions of access.

Mail:
Mail delivery is not expected be impacted by the project.

Garbage Pickup:
Please have garbage bins at the curb the night before pick-up. The contractor will relocate bins if necessary to allow for pick-up.

Water Service:
Water service will be temporarily interrupted at times. Notification will be provided to those who will be impacted prior to interruptions.

Utility work began last week on Irwin with the installation of water main. Storm sewer installation continued on Catherine between Terrace and Ambrosia. Additionally, road rebuilding has officially begun on Catherine between Irwin and Terrace. Water services and road rebuilding will continue this week on both Catherine and Irwin.

Work Completed Last Week

  • Road removed on Irwin from Peck to Catherine.
  • Water main installed and tested on Irwin between Peck and Catherine.
  • Water main tested on Catherine between Terrace and Ambrosia.
  • Water main connected to the existing system at Pine.
  • Road rebuilding began on Catherine.
  • Storm sewer installation continued on Catherine between Terrace and Ambrosia.

Anticipated Work This Week

  • Continue road rebuilding on Catherine between Arthur and Irwin.
  • Continue storm sewer installation on Catherine between Terrace and Ambrosia.
  • Water main connections to the existing system at Irwin, Terrace, Spring, and Ambrosia.
  • Begin installing water services on Catherine between Ambrosia and Terrace, and Irwin between Peck and Catherine.

Utility work on Catherine continued last week with sanitary lateral and water main installation east of Terrace St.  Water main installation will begin on Irwin Avenue and storm sewer main will continue on Catherine Avenue this week.

Please note: Irwin Ave. will be closed to traffic between Peck St. and Clinton Street starting on Monday May 11th for water main installation.

  • Water main installation continued between Pine St. and Ambrosia St.
  • Completed installation of sanitary laterals

Anticipated Work This Week

  • Begin installation of water main on Irwin Ave.
  • Begin installation of storm sewer between Terrace St. and Wood St.
  • Remove road surface and curb on Irwin Ave. between Peck St. and Catherine Ave.

Work on Catherine continued with installation of sanitary sewer laterals early last week before crews were pulled offsite.  K&R will be onsite working fulltime again this week continuing with sanitary and water main installations.

  • Sanitary sewer installation at Pine St.
  • Continue installation of sanitary sewer laterals.
  • Connect water main to the existing system at Ransom St.

Work on Catherine continues with the installation of sanitary sewer and water main towards the eastern project limits.

Work Completed Last Week

  • Water main connected to the existing water system at Wood St. and Ambrosia St.
  • Sanitary Sewer installation completed between Spring St. and Ambrosia St.
  • Sanitary lateral installation continued east of Terrace St.

Anticipated Work This Week

  • Sanitary lateral installation will continue.
  • Sanitary manhole installation at Pine St.
  • The Contractors will be off site until Wednesday April 22nd.

Work on Catherine continued this past week with the completion of water services between Irwin and Terrace, while both water main and sanitary sewer main continued from the other limits of the project.

  • Water main installed between Ambrosia and Wood has been tested and sampled.
  • Sanitary Sewer installed between Pine and Spring.

  • Water main installation will continue from Ambrosia, moving toward Terrace.
  • Water main will tie into the existing system at Wood.
  • Sanitary sewer installation will continue between Pine and Terrace.

Work on Catherine continued this past week with the installation of storm sewer main and sanitary sewer laterals on Catherine between Irwin and Terrace. The water main that was installed between Irwin and Terrace passed all testing and water services are scheduled to begin this week.

  • Storm sewer main was installed on Catherine from Irwin to Terrace.
  • Water main testing passed for main installed between Irwin and Terrace. Water main tie in at Terrace was completed in preparation for water services.
  • Sanitary lateral installations were completed between Terrace and Irwin.

  • Water services between Irwin and Terrace will begin today, 03/30/2026.
  • Water main installation will begin between Wood and Ambrosia.

  • Water main was pressure tested, flushed and chlorinated on Catherine between Irwin and Terrace.
  • Sanitary laterals were installed on Catherine working from Terrace towards Arthur.

  • New water main was tied-in to the existing system in Butler Street following all testing.
  • Turf restoration began at Butler Street.
  • Sanitary Sewer main was installed on Catherine between Irwin and Terrace.
  • Sanitary lateral installation began on Catherine
