City of Whitehall - Downtown Improvements

Important Information

This project contains four aspects:

1. Pocket park development between Catchmark and Bell’s of Whitehall (old alleyway)

2. Doubling of parking lot (to north) in Goodrich Park closest to gazebo by marina

3. Reconstruction of parking lot behind 117 W Colby, north of Spring Street, west of 1st Street

4. Resurfacing of parking lot east of Mears behind 100 block of E Colby.

Work began week of April 15, 2024 and is expected to be complete in fall 2024.

Access/Traffic: Parking lot work will affect access to parking lots during the work in the parking lots. Traffic will not be affected.

AnLaan will also be rebuilding the following in Downtown:

  • Reconstruction of the parking lot north of Spring Street, west of Mears (south of 121 and 117 W Colby Street)
  • Resurfacing of the parking lot east of Mears behind 101-107 E Colby Street
  • Expansion (doubling) of the parking lot in Goodrich Park closest to the Gazebo

Construction crews have been very busy in Downtown Whitehall making improvements.  Here is an update of the work performed this past week:

 

Pocket Park between Catchmark and Bell’s Furniture:

  • Water Service was installed for new bathroom
  • Excavated for footings for new seatwalls

 

Goodrich Park Parking Lot:

  • 3 Trees Removed – Some were found to be hollow and diseased
  • Silt fence installed, pavement removed for parking lot addition
  • Topsoil stripped and stockpiled

 

Goodrich Park Fishing Pier:

  • Boom installed at old fishing deck
  • Old fishing deck removed
  • Old sidewalk removed

 

Work expected the week of April 29, 2024:

  • Electrical installation for lights at Goodrich Park Parking Lot
  • Grading at Goodrich Park Parking lot, including addition of fill material and gravel
  • Pouring concrete seat walls in Pocket Park
  • Installation of new pilings for Fishing Pier

 

Work expected the week of May 6, 2024:

  • Pour remaining concrete in Pocket Park
  • Continue Grading and leveling at Goodrich Park Parking Lot
  • Pour Concrete curb and Sidewalk repairs at Goodrich Park Parking Lot
  • Begin Installation of new deck at Fishing Pier in Goodrich Park

Work began last week in what will become a Pocket Park in the old alley between Catchmark and Bell’s of Whitehall.  Removals of the old pavement and work on utility installation for what will become a new public bathroom installation later this summer began also. Drainage pipes were installed already.

  

Work expected this week of April 22, 2024:

  • New water line for the proposed bathroom will be installed
  • Excavation for footings for the new seat walls around the landscape areas will be installed
  • Begin pouring the footings for the seat walls
  • Grading for the sidewalk restoration
  • ALSO expected this week – Work will begin on the removal of the old fishing deck in Goodrich Park.  This work is planned to begin around Wednesday, April 24, 2024 with removals of sidewalk and the old deck.

 

Work expected the week of April 29, 2024:

  • Continued work on seat walls in the Pocket Park
  • Grading for the sidewalk in the Pocket Park
  • Continued removals of the remainder of the Deck in Goodrich Park
  • Removal of old sidewalk along the seawall south of the fishing deck in Goodrich Park
