Grand Haven Charter Township - Contract 1 Transmission Main No. 03

Important Information

Grand Haven Charter Township will be constructing new 20-inch ductile iron water transmission main on Ferry Street/172nd Avenue from Grant Ave to 300 feet south of Robbins Road in the City of Grand Haven and Grand Haven Charter Township.

As part of the water main construction, the road will be replaced, including curb and gutter and driveway approaches on the west side of the road as well as some storm sewer. This project is anticipated to occur in three stages starting in April of 2024 on Grant Avenue and working south through October of 2024. Roads will be closed to through traffic, but will remain open to residents.

Stage 1 will include construction in Grant Avenue. Ferry Street will be closed to through traffic between Pennoyer Avenue and Colfax Avenue

Stage 2 will include construction between Grant Avenue and Taylor Avenue. Ferry Street will be closed to through traffic between Grant Avenue and Taylor Avenue

Stage 3 will include construction between Taylor Avenue and 300 feet south of Robbins Road. Ferry Street will be closed to through traffic between Taylor Avenue and Robbins Road.

Progress Report: The Contractor continued restoration efforts on the Grant Avenue intersection. The Contractor also started to set up traffic control and detour for the closure of Ferry Street between Taylor Ave and Grant Ave starting next week. The dewatering system was installed and the west lane of Ferry Street was removed from Grant Avenue to Taylor Avenue to prepare for water main installation to the south.

Upcoming Work: The Contractor will remove curb and gutter and driveways on the west side of Ferry Street next week starting from Grant Avenue and working south to Taylor Avenue. Starting early next week the Contractor will continue progress with water main construction to the south. Asphalt crews will be on site early to mid next week to install asphalt on the Grant Avenue intersection.

Extra Notes: Residents and motorists are reminded to stay clear of construction equipment and excavations on the project site. As water main construction continues south, access to each property will be affected and will change with the progress of construction.

 

Progress Report: The Contractor completed the water main connection at the Grant Avenue intersection and has started restoration efforts at Grant Avenue.

Upcoming Work: The Contractor will continue restoration efforts at Grant Avenue next week. The disturbed area at Grant Avenue will be restored to a gravel surface by the middle of next week. After Grant Avenue is restored to gravel, the Contractor will start transitioning to Stage 2 of the construction phasing plan. The closure of Ferry Street between Grant Avenue and Taylor Avenue will be set up, and the Contractor will start road removals on the southbound lane on Ferry Street from Grant Ave to Taylor Ave .

Progress Report: Stage 1 traffic control has been set up this week including the closure and detour of Ferry St between Pennoyer Ave and Colfax Ave as well as Grant Ave. McCormick Sand has mobilized equipment and materials on site and has started excavation in the Ferry St/Grant Ave intersection to prepare for water main construction.

Upcoming Work: Next week, the Contractor will continue water main installation in the Ferry St/Grant Ave intersection and may start to backfill and reconstruct the intersection towards the end of next week.

Upcoming Work:

McCormick Sand is going to begin the mobilization process on the project starting on Monday, April 1st for the first phase of the project at Grant Avenue. Mobilization will consist of delivering construction equipment and materials to the project location. Traffic Control devices are going to be set up which will involve the closure of Grant Avenue and Ferry Street from Grant Ave to Colfax St. A detour will be set up utilizing Pennoyer Ave, Beechtree St, and Taylor Ave. Once the road closure is set up, McCormick Sand will begin excavating into the Ferry Street and Grant Avenue intersection for water main construction.

To ensure information is readily available to residents, property owners, service providers, and those affected by detour routes, the City has created an email distribution list to communicate project updates. If anyone would like to receive updates, please email dkollewehr@grandhaven.org stating that they would like to receive updates related to the Ferry Street project.

Residents and motorists are asked to be patient while traffic control and road closures are being set up for the start of the project and always to use caution when they are around construction activity.
