Georgetown Charter Township - 48th Ave Transmission Main Phase 2

Progress Report:

48th Avenue: The contractor completed the section of water main in the project limits of the roundabout at the intersection and connected their water main to the existing water main on Baldwin Street. The contractor also continued to restore the roadway in 48th Avenue to prepare for paving.

Tyler Street: The contractor finalized restoration on the site and planted grass seed in the areas disturbed by the project.

Upcoming Work:

48th Avenue: The contractor will begin testing of the water main they installed in the intersection next week. The contractor hopes to pave 48th Avenue south of Oak Lane Drive around the end of August and finish installing the water main once they receive all of their materials around the middle of September. Following that they will finish the road restoration. The contractor for the roundabout will begin construction for the roundabout when the water main has passed testing in the intersection. It is anticipated that roads will be fully reopened by the end of October.

Notes:

48th Avenue remains closed to through traffic from Port Sheldon Street to Baldwin Street. The intersection at Baldwin Street and 48th Avenue remains closed from every direction for the roundabout construction. Through traffic should continue to follow the posted detour signage.

Residents along 48th Avenue should be aware that crews will be on site restoring the roads and greenspace around the roads.

Local traffic needing access to Sutherland Springs Condominium should do so by turning onto 48th Avenue from Port Sheldon Street if possible. While the contractor will continue to maintain access to 48th Avenue from either direction, dump trucks will be lined up north of Tyler Oaks Drive later in the week.

We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road. Police will continue to monitor the site to ensure safe working conditions and to ensure the road is only being used by those who live or work on this road. Local traffic should continue to be especially mindful as there will be multiple crews on site next week. The contractor is aware of the difficult traffic situation and will accommodate to the best of their ability.

• 48th Avenue: The contractor has laid pipe in the intersection of 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street and has begun to lay pipe towards the east to the ending point of the project. The contractor will have to connect their water mains at the end of the project when they receive all of their materials. The contractor also continued restoration of the road and testing of the water main that they have installed so far.
• Tyler Street: The contractor continued restoration of the project site.
• 48th Ave and Baldwin St Roundabout: The Road Commission’s contractor was not on site after removing the asphalt in the road because the contractor for the water main was working in that area.

Upcoming Work:

• 48th Avenue: The contractor will continue laying pipe to the east towards the end of the project, but once they receive the rest of their material, they will return to the area south of the intersection to connect their water mains and finish the project. The contractor will also continue rebuilding the road and restoring the project site.
• Tyler Street: The contractor will continue final restoration of the site.
• 48th Ave and Baldwin St Roundabout: The contractor will finish surface removals and will begin building up the roundabout.

The contractor also continued testing the water main that they’ve installed so far. In addition, the contractor also continued to rebuild 48th Ave where the pipe was finished testing. The contractor is currently laying pipe north of Tyler Oaks Drive.
• Tyler Street Water Main: The contractor continued restoration of the project site.
• 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street Roundabout: The contractor closed the intersection at 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street to traffic from all directions and began surface removals and milling the asphalt in the road. Once the water main is installed through the intersection, the intersection can be built back up with the roundabout.

• 48th Avenue Transmission Main: The contractor will continue testing water main between Wellington Street and Oak Lane Drive and will continue laying water main in a northward direction towards the intersection at Baldwin Street.
• Tyler Street Water Main: The contractor will continue restoration of the project site in order to bring the project to completion.
• 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street Roundabout: The contractor will continue to prepare for roundabout construction after the water main is installed in the intersection.

Please be advised that, after a miscommunication regarding schedule, the intersection of Baldwin Street and 48th Avenue was closed this morning by the Ottawa County Road Commission’s contractor to begin surface removal work in preparation for the roundabout construction. The contractor closed the intersection this morning to begin work and will mill the road in the intersection on Thursday, July 30.

• 48th Avenue: The contractor continued testing the water main that has been installed so far. The contractor also continued to reconstruct 48th Avenue and even paved a portion of the road over the portion of water main that has been successfully tested.
• Tyler Street: The contractor made the connections to the existing water main, installed water services, and began to restore the area.

Upcoming Work:

• 48th Avenue: The contractor will continue testing of the water main that they have installed, and the contractor may begin to lay pipe north of Tyler Street again, but the schedule is dependent on material availability. The contractor will continue to restore the road, working their way north.
• Tyler Street: The contractor will continue to restore the area as they work towards final completion.
• 48th/Baldwin Intersection: The Ottawa County Road Commission’s contractor anticipates closing the intersection of 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street on Thursday, July 30. The contractor will begin surface removal in preparation for the construction of the roundabout. The roundabout will be constructed after the water main is installed through the intersection.

On 48th Avenue: Due to a material shortage, the contractor did not continue to lay pipe northward this week. The contractor continued with testing and repairs to the water main. The contractor also continued restoration along the west side of the road where the sanitary sewer was installed.

On Tyler Street; The contractor tested the water main and prepared to finally restore.

Upcoming Work:

On 48th Avenue: The contractor will continue with testing and restoration while they wait for more pipe. The contractor plans to pave a portion of 48th Avenue north of Port Sheldon Street sometime next week.

On Tyler Street: The contractor will complete the connection to the existing water main on Monday and install water services on Tuesday. Following that, the contractor will complete final restoration of the project site.

Note:

Local traffic should be aware that the contractor on 48th Avenue will be working on road construction and that this will necessitate construction equipment and trucks over a long stretch of road. Residents north of Rush Creek should access their property from the north as the east side of 48th Avenue is open to local traffic and there is not currently pipe work taking place in 48th Avenue north of Tyler Street. We ask local traffic to continue to be mindful of the work occurring and we appreciate everyone’s patience during construction.

The 48th Avenue contractor has laid pipe north of Tyler Oaks Drive, but due to material shortage, has stopped laying pipe northward for now. The contractor has continued testing water main and reconstructing the road south of Tyler Street.

The contractor for the Tyler Street water main has begun testing its last stretch of water main, with final connections and water service installation to follow.

Upcoming Work:

The contractor on 48th Avenue will continue testing the water main south of Tyler Street and will continue reconstructing the road in preparation of paving that will take place once the water main is fully tested. The contractor plans to start laying pipe again towards the intersection of Baldwin Street and 48th Avenue around the end of July/early August when they can get the appropriate materials delivered. The sanitary sewer in 48th Avenue will also undergo its final testing in the coming weeks.

The water main in Tyler Street will continue its testing this week, and once the testing is complete, the contractor will make the final connections to the existing water main and install water services before restoration begins.

The roundabout construction at the intersection of 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street is set to begin after water main is installed in that area.

Progress Report:

Earlier this week, the contractor progressed north beyond Tyler Oaks Drive with transmission main installation on 48th Avenue. Later in the week, the contractor conducted tests on several stretches of pipe. The road reconstruction crew continued efforts throughout the week to grade and compact the aggregate base for the road.

Construction on the water main in Tyler Street also continued, with the contractor working their way towards the west towards Tyler Pines Avenue.

The road remains closed to through traffic and should not be used except for local traffic only. Local traffic should proceed with caution and remain mindful of the workers present.

Upcoming Work:

The contractor will continue chlorination and pressure tests on several other stretches of pipe to ensure the pipe is ready before paving the road. Following that, the contractor will likely continue laying transmission main pipe northbound towards Baldwin Street later in the week. The contractor will not be working on 48th Avenue on Monday, July 6th. Paving on 48th Avenue is still expected to occur sometime in mid-July.

The intersection of 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street will be closed for water main and roundabout construction in mid-to-late July.

The Tyler Street water main will likely finish construction early next week, but the road will remain closed while the area is restored and testing is complete.

Note:

Local traffic north of Rush Creek (including condo traffic on Chatsworth Creek Drive and Faringdom Grove Drive) should access their condos now from the north (Baldwin Street) during construction. No work during this time will be occurring north of Tyler Street to facilitate the flow of local traffic in and out of the work area.

Dykema will only be having a crew starting tomorrow working on 48th Avenue at the Rush Creek Crossing resulting in a full closure to local traffic. Local traffic north of Rush Creek (including condo traffic on Chatsworth Creek Drive and Faringdom Grove Drive) should access their condos now from the north (Baldwin Street) during construction. No work during this time will be occurring north of Tyler Street to facilitate the flow of local traffic in and out of the work area.

Last week, Dykema Excavating continued installing the 24-inch transmission main pipe northbound past Tyler Street on 48th Avenue. The road crew continued grading the road with aggregate base from Port Sheldon Street to just south of Wellington Street near the N. Schut Greenhouses. Residential driveways were also prepared for paving. Testing also continues on the already installed transmission main.

In addition, the Tyler Street water main project (Contractor: DeSal Excavating) began with installation of 12-inch water main crossing 48th Avenue on Tuesday. Water main continued to be installed on Friday to the west along Tyler Street. Paving occurred on a portion of Tyler Street on Wednesday.

Upcoming Work:

Dykema will continue installing transmission main northbound towards Baldwin and will also be working on testing of the transmission main. Paving south of Tyler Street to Port Sheldon Street is expected to take place sometime in mid-July once testing of the transmission main is completed.

DeSal will continue installing 12-inch water main next week and may be complete installation of the water main by the end of next week. Testing would then follow installation.
