Georgetown Charter Township - 48th Ave Transmission Main Phase 2

Project Information

Georgetown Charter Township will be constructing a new 24-inch water transmission main on 48th Ave from north of Port Sheldon St to Baldwin St and on Baldwin St from 48th Ave to Fox Meadow Dr. In addition to the water transmission main project, there are three other projects in the area whose project limits and schedules overlap the transmission main project, and brief updates on those projects will be found here as well. J&H is constructing sanitary sewer in 48th Ave from north of Port Sheldon St to north of Rush Creek; Blendon Township is constructing water main in Tyler St from 48th Ave to Tyler Pines Dr; and the Ottawa County Road Commission is constructing a roundabout at the intersection of 48th Ave and Baldwin St.

The transmission main project is anticipated to occur in three stages starting in April of 2026 and working through November of 2026. Roads will be closed to through traffic but will remain open to residents.

Access/Traffic:

The Georgetown Charter Township water transmission main project is broken down into the stages below. The additional projects from Blendon Township, J&H Oil, and the Ottawa County Road Commission may have additional traffic impacts beyond what is detailed here. The dates and schedule below are tentative and are subject to change; updates will be provided here weekly.

Stage 1: Beginning in early April, 48th Ave will be closed from north of Port Sheldon St to south of Tyler St. The proposed detour route will route traffic to Port Sheldon St, 36th Ave, and Baldwin Street.

Progress Report:

The contractor continues to install sanitary sewer towards the south to tie into the sanitary sewer that was constructed last year north of Port Sheldon Street.

Upcoming Work:

The contractor plans to begin the bore and jack operation for water main this week under Rush Creek for the water main and will be mobilizing today. The bore and jack operation will require a full, hard closure of 48th Avenue at Rush Creek.

Note:

We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road. Police will continue to be present to safe working conditions and to ensure the road is only being used sparingly by those who live or work on this road and not by though traffic.

Progress Report:

The contractor has milled 48th Ave south of Rush Creek and has milled the east side of the road up to Tyler St and is working to maintain adequate access for residents and businesses in the construction zone.

Upcoming Work:

The contractor will begin installing sanitary sewer this week south of Rush Creek and will work their way south to tie into the sewer that was installed last year just north of Port Sheldon St. In addition, the contractor will begin a bore and jack operation under Rush Creek ahead of the water main installation. The bore and jack operation will take place next week beginning on Monday. This will result in a full, hard closure of 48th Ave at Rush Creek.

Note:

We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road. Police will continue to be present to safe working conditions and to ensure the road is only being used sparingly by those who live or work on this road and not by though traffic.

Progress Report:

The contractor has closed down 48th Ave between Port Sheldon and Tyler St and has placed detour signs to route traffic away from the construction area. This week the contractor also installed soil erosion control measures, and they’ve also milled 48th Ave where work will take place during Stage 1 to prepare for excavation work next week.

Upcoming Work:

The contractor will begin installing sanitary sewer in 48th Ave south of Rush Creek next week. Work will progress towards the south to tie-in to the work completed last year. Once the sanitary sewer is tied into the south, the sanitary sewer will be installed across Rush Creek and tie into the north. The contractor anticipates completing the work on the sanitary sewer around the beginning of May. Once the work on sanitary sewer is complete, work will begin on the 24-inch water transmission main.

Note:

We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road and that they be aware that police will continue to be present to ensure safe and effective working conditions. Drivers will be stopped and ticketed if found attempting to use the 48th Ave north of Port Sheldon Street.

Progress Report:

Give ‘Em a Brake Safety was on site installing traffic control measures.

Upcoming Work:

The contractor notified us that construction will begin on March 30, 2026 on Stage 1 of this project. Closures will include 48th Ave from north of Port Sheldon St to south of Tyler St. Traffic on 48th Ave will utilize Port Sheldon St, 36th Ave, and Baldwin Street. Detour Map

The contractor plans on mobilizing, installing dewatering, completing traffic control measures, and starting on the sanitary sewer installation.

Note:

We ask the public to respect the workers and the closed road and that they be aware that police will continue to be present to ensure safe and effective working conditions. Drivers will be stopped and ticketed if found attempting to use the 48th Ave north of Port Sheldon St.

Construction is set to begin on March 30, 2026 on Stage 1 of this project. Closures will include 48th Ave from north of Port Sheldon St to south of Tyler St. Traffic on 48th Ave will utilize Port Sheldon St, 36th Ave, and Baldwin St.

The initial construction will be of sanitary sewer for J&H to tie-in to sanitary sewer north of Rush Creek. When the contractor is able, after constructing J&H’s sanitary sewer, they will start the construction of the water transmission main.

The Contractor will begin work on Stage 1 by installing the 24-inch water main under Rush Creek using a bore and jack. Once, the Rush Creek crossing is complete, the contractor will access and connect to the existing 24-inch water transmission main north of Port Sheldon St that was installed in 2025. Work will then continue north towards Tyler Street. Detour Map

The Contractor is anticipated to begin Stage 2 and cross Tyler St in mid-July. Closures will include 48th Ave from south of Tyler St to south of Baldwin St. Traffic will utilize Port Sheldon St, 36th Ave, 56th Ave, and Baldwin Street. Detour Map

Stage 3 will begin when the intersection of Baldwin St and 48th Ave is closed, and this is anticipated to begin in early August. Traffic will utilize Port Sheldon St, 36th Ave, 56th Ave, and Bauer Road. Detour Map

In addition to the Georgetown Charter Township water transmission main construction, Blendon Township is constructing a water main in Tyler St from 48th Ave to Tyler Pines Ave; J&H Oil is constructing a sanitary sewer in 48th Ave from Port Sheldon to north of Rush Creek; and the Ottawa County Road Commission will be constructing a roundabout at the intersection of 48th Ave and Baldwin St. These projects may have traffic impacts beyond what is listed here, but brief updates on the status of those projects will be posted here along with the water transmission main updates.
