Plainfield Jericho and Airway Pathways Construction Updates

September 1, 2023

This week, crews continued to make progress on both Airway Street and Jericho Avenue.

Crews from L&O Concrete installed the remaining concrete over on Airway Street, followed by Al’s Excavating crews finishing the topsoil restoration. Remaining items to complete on Airway include:

Slope restoration and seeding
Sign installation
Pavement marking
Finishing the pathway work near Plainfield Avenue (following the relocation of several sprinkler conflicts)

On Jericho Avenue, 28 Specialties and Al’s Excavating crews continued retaining wall construction and pathway grading. Next week, they plan to continue working on the final retaining wall and installing aggregate base along Jericho Avenue.

August 25, 2023

This week on Airway Street, crews from Al’s Excavating, Lite Loads, and L&O Concrete have been working hard in the heat to finish up the remaining pathway items.

Lite Loads paved the remaining layer of asphalt on Tuesday, followed by prep work for the concrete driveway replacements and curb ramp work on Thursday.
Friday and into next week, Al’s Excavating will finish restoring the topsoil and prepare the project area for seeding.
There is still more work to do on the eastern side of the project that will be completed shortly.

On Jericho Avenue, 28 Specialties has continued construction on two of the remaining three retaining walls. They expect to be finished and moving on to the last and final wall by early next week.

Crews from Al’s Excavating have been working on pathway grading and removing sand from the retaining wall areas for storage and use on later parts of the project.

August 19, 2023

Exciting news regarding the progress on the Jericho Avenue pathway this week! The team at 28 Specialties has continued construction on the next large retaining wall, while Al’s Excavating crews have shifted their focus to pathway grading.

On Airway Street progress continues. Next week Tuesday they will be paving the second layer of asphalt, followed by the completion of pending concrete tasks. Additionally, the finishing touches will be applied to seeding and restoration efforts. Over on Jericho, work will continue in topsoil removal, gravel placement, and advancing the construction of retaining walls. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!

August 11, 2023

This week on Airway Street, the crews are now just a few steps away from completing the pathway. Light Loads LLC paved the first of two layers of asphalt on Wednesday. Al’s Excavating has been hard at work grading and raking on the topsoil restoration now that the base asphalt layer has been completed. The crews have also been working on pathway valve box grade adjustments with the Township’s water department and completing the final concrete curb items.

There is still one more layer of asphalt, as well as the concrete curb ramps, driveways, and seeding to take place yet. Most of this work should be completed in the next week or two. Concrete driveways will be one of the last items completed after the final layer of asphalt is finished. Al’s Excavating will coordinate that process with each homeowner as access will be limited once concrete is poured.

On Jericho Avenue, 28 specialties has finished the second retaining wall and crews from Al’s excavating have installed 16 feet of large diameter concrete culvert. Next week, they will finish the culvert work near Peter Creek and begin stripping topsoil along the path corridor.

August 4, 2023

This week concrete curb and gutter was poured on Airway Street, Al’s excavating also continued preparing the pathway aggregate grade, and removed several driveways in preparation for paving. They plan to pave the first of two courses of asphalt on Wednesday August 9^th. Driveway access may be limited for short periods of time as they come through.

On Jericho, 28 Specialties has mostly finished the largest of the retaining walls! The contractor also had materials delivered for the culvert extension they will be beginning shortly. Next week Al’s excavating will continue to remove stumps along the pathway route and prepare for the construction of the next retaining wall.

July 28, 2023

This week, progress continued on both Airway Street and Jericho Avenue despite the heat!

The crew from 28 Specialties continued building the large block retaining walls on Jericho. They are on track to wrap up building the majority of the current wall by sometime next week, and will move on to the next wall section. The top and corner blocks needed to finish the wall have not yet arrived onsite, once they do 28 Specialties will finish the wall.

On Airway Street, Al’s Excavating has continued removing topsoil and preparing the pathway corridor for asphalt while working their way towards Plainfield Avenue. Next week, they will form and pour the concrete curbs and will also begin their finish grading of the aggregate base. Al’s will coordinate the driveway removal process with each homeowner one day ahead of any driveway removals.

July 21, 2023

This week, both projects are back in full swing. Al’s Excavating is out on Airway Street working on the preliminary grading and earth work. They started at Hunsburger and are working their way toward Plainfield Avenue. They are removing the topsoil and roughly grading the aggregate base as they move along.

Next week, they will move across Jupiter and continue the earth work. By the end of next week, the contractor plans to come back through and finish grading the pathway in preparation for asphalt.

On Jericho, subcontractor 28 Specialties has continued to construct the first of several large block retaining walls. They will continue the wall building process for the next few weeks. Once the earthwork crew wraps up on Airway Street, they will begin doing the grading work on Jericho.

July 14, 2023

As noted in the last project update, our crews enjoyed the long holiday weekend and were back to work on July 5^th.

In the past week and a half, subcontractor 28 Specialties has completed the retaining walls on Airway Street and moved their equipment over to Jericho Avenue to begin the large block retaining walls. Al’s Excavating will complete the final earthwork and restoration on top of and adjacent to the walls on Airway when they arrive next week. The Airway Street pathway project is now ready for the pathway earthwork to begin!

The contractors will be onsite next week to begin removing the existing sidewalk, soils, and grass in preparation for the pathway gravel base and pavement. They will be starting at Hunsberger and working east. Al’s Excavating will contact each property owner one day ahead of their driveway removals to coordinate with each property. There will be no driveway removals next week.

The earthwork and pathway preparation process along Airway will move quickly and can be expected to take a couple of weeks. In the meantime, 28 Specialties will continue to construct the large block retaining walls along Jericho Avenue. Please continue to be mindful of our construction crews and your speed now that they are back working on Jericho after a brief break.

June 30, 2023

The tree removal has been completed for both projects. The tree removal subcontractor wrapped up their work earlier this week and have now left the site. With the tree removal complete, the temporary lane closures will be minimized. Lanes may still close temporarily to allow haul vehicles access to the trail, so please continue to be mindful of the crews.

Despite the weather and smoke this week, the subcontractor, 28 Specialties, has made great progress on the retaining walls on Airway. They expect to be wrapped up on Airway and heading over to begin the walls on Jericho by the end of next week.

All of our contractors and subcontractors plan to enjoy their holiday weekend, and once their day is done today, Friday, June 30^th, they will not return to the project site until next Wednesday, July 5^th.

June 23, 2023

This week the construction team has made great progress on the first of two retaining walls along Airway Street. Weather permitting, they plan to wrap up the retaining walls on Airway and start on Jericho around the 4^th of July. The tree removals on Jericho are nearly complete, with just a few larger trees to remove in the first part of next week. The temporary lane closures on Jericho will end once tree removal is complete. The lanes may close again throughout the project, but just for short periods of time to allow materials to be brought in and out of the construction site.
